In our area in deep dark west country the plate rents are dropping . In the last few weeks rents have went from around £130-40 to £115 a week some getting 2 weeks rent free thrown in. There appears to be a few plates doing nothing so drivers are changing over to cheaper plates. The cause seems to be lack of work with some drivers going over to P/H causing alack of hackney drivers to take up the loose plates. Though its still hard to get on the ranks.

Is this happening anywhere else in the country.

Isn't one of the reasons because the LEOs are cracking down on quoted booked fares on Hackneys and insisting that the taximeters are used from pick-up to drop?

And that in turn is shifting drivers from Hackneys to Private Hire where fares can be quoted as above.

I would imagine drivers working out the best way for them to earn a living happens everywhere all the time.

Nice to see rents come down though. Up the workers. :D
