what is the most problem taxi drivers face its illigal plying for hire.
An private hires queing up outside bars an clubs late at night not letting cabs throu,
Every night when cabs come into town there's no space on ranks as private hire queing up iswell an the public just get into them as they think they are taxis,
The council should introduce a new law thay private hires can't enter town at certain hours without a booking an if they have a booking or drop off they have to leave after they have piked up or dropped off on new years eve an christmas eve thaat was the rule that from 8pm-4am no private hire was allowed to enter town without a booing instead they had to que up on Buckingham street an when they had a booking they had to show the job on there pda to the taxi marshal.
An those nights there was a lot of space on ranks there was no private hire trouble an we cab drivers had a good nights
.

Enforcement is a problem everywhere, but a City Centre ban is a bit of a over reaction.

We have freedom of movement laws in this country, and that also applies to PH.

Of course if your council allowed all those PH to license as taxis instead, then that would solve your problem.

Wouldn't it?

In that case Mr Sussex, would you support a law that would compel a licensing authority to revoke a Private Hire Driver's Licence and his Private Hire Vehicle Licence on a first conviction for illegal plying for hire, but allow that driver to apply for and be granted a Hackney Carriage Driver's Licence and a Hackney Carriage Vehicle Licence?

what utter nonsense

Deal with the offenders by all means - those that are illegally plying in a PHV should have their license revoked but dont ( as a london cabbie recently put it) Tar everybody with the same brush !

I wonder how legal what the the taxi marshals did on new years eve actually was ?

I often Boo and Hiss at Minicabs.

You know what though? The more I think of the above idea for a small town, the better it sounds.

No fare, no entry.
Why else would they (and other cars) need to be in the main street if they have no pre-booked job?

We all know what they're up to, so I'm not sure it's taking away their freedom of movement. TFL and other authorities do that all the time with road closures and Bus schemes, so whats a few hours on Friday and Saturday nights?

Best anti touting enforcement you'll get.

I completely agree it's shocking and they should be shot. I have the same problem here, except, I'm PH and what stops me from gaining access to my pre booked fares are all the taxis that are illegally plying their trade outside pubs and clubs. Forming ranks and even trying to get punters in their cabs. You're like a sodden outbreak of the pox irrating, unsightly and fecking everywhere

Because they have dropped off there and know their next pre-booked job will come from there.

That's how the PH trade works.

fair enough if a person gets into the private hire an assumes its a taxi but its not that its that they ask people do you need a taxi and I think that's wrong,
When we had a meeting with the council the council pointed out that after a hack drops a job off they go back to rank, so after a private hire does a drop off they should go back to base so they done a servey with the public an 84% said that's fair so the council said this back to base rule should start taking place by end of 2012.
But even if the rule takes place I don't think it will last.

From what you're saying all the taxis in your area return to a rank after every job and the council know this because they've checked. They also asked the public in a survey what they think the ph should do when they complete a job. Would this be the same public that mistake a ph for a taxi :? How many ph are there in your area?

So based on this, if a PH in your area get a job to say Heathrow airport dropping of at say 13:00 and he has a booking from Heathrow at say 13:30. The driver has to return to base in between?

we have now about 800 private hire vehicles here in aylesbury.
If he drops of a heathrow job he won't get the next as now they have pda systems so it will go to who's next on the list.
