Do you remember the Bunsen Burner from your school day chemistry and physics lessons all those decades ago?

Well it's Robert Bunsen's 200th birthday today, according to Google's home page.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh those great school days when Mr Storr, our chemistry teacher, was making sulphuric acid and had so many sulphur trioxide crystals in a beaker he was salivating because of the exceptional yield from his best ever attempt at the experiment.

That's until he added water and the whole beaker exploded, showering all that were close to the front with sulphuric acid and burning loads of little holes in his suit and skin and the clothes and skin of those near to the explosion!!!

Great times!!!

Thank you Robert Bunsen; our lives would not be complete without you and people like Mr Storr!!!

We had large wooden drawers in the desks of the science labs at school (Hewett in Norwich). We found that if you shut a unlit but turned on bunsen in there for half a minute or so,then dropped a lit match inside the gap the draw would blow out with a very satisfying bang and a nice flame.
Although no body actually got hurt as a direct result it usually ended up with the experimenter having a very sore backside and being unable to sit down for some while afterwards.

take one screw top small swepche bottle 1 piece of clear hose, 2 LB of sugar, and 1 tub of powdered weed killer about the size of a pringle tube
Mix weed killer and sugar together, fill bottle make hole in screw top to take hose ram it about half way down, fill hose and seal around bottle top with plasticine
Go to massive pools when tide goes out light hose and throw bottle into middle and it sinks still burning and then explodes result loads of stunned fish on the surface use net or swim for them.
Take fish to hotels and restaurants and sell them
