after driving a taxi for nearly 20 years I have now started private hire for the first time ever an it has been the quietest day
I started at 6am finished at 4pm, 10hrs
I done my first job at half 6 then my next 2 an half hours later then done 7 jobs from 10-2 and my last at about 3pm
Only 10 jobs I don't know how people can make a living with earnings like this,
I spoke to a few other drivers from over firms they say its like this every day maybe once a week you might hit the lotto with a big job but normally its always local jobs
Is it like this anywere else?

Yes. However it's horses for courses. Hacks do more jobs but tend to be shorter runs around the £4 mark, PH do less jobs but average £6-7 a fare.

End of the day it's not how many jobs you do but how much you make, although I'd rather be kept busy doing smaller jobs than waiting around for better fares. 20 jobs at £4 or 11 at £7, it's all £80(ish).

It's pretty grim in many areas.

Sundays can be the best day of the week, or the worst.

Sundays round here tend to be decent shifts, sometimes you can take more than a Saturday.

I done 1 £4 job an da rest local £3 and that's all I made in a 10hr shift an only 40% of that is mine as its a company car.

So your takings for the 10 hour shift were £31.00 and you get 40% of this which is £12.40 . Why do you do it? Do you also have to pay for the fuel and insurance?

the reason I do it is because my boss has sold the hackney I used to drive an the guy who bought it him an his brother drive it but I have asked a few other hackney owners but noone else has a spare taxi for me to drive as they all have drivers.
No every thing is the companys I get 40% of what I make , fuel insurance other expenses are the companys.

so your boss owes you £46.10

10 hours at £5.85 = £58.50 minus £12.40 =£46.10

No I can work when ever I want an finish when I want but if it was my own car then I have to choose a shift day or night
So if I choose day when it comes to a weekend I can't go over to nights or if I want to do both shifts meaning some days night some day then I have to pay 2 rents day an night 80 + 80 = 160
But its not worth paying that much so that's why its worth me driving for the company.

Day rent £80 going over to nights another £80?? The owners must be on some £££££ down there.
