Apologies if this topic is taboo/done to death before.

I don't normally work Saturday nights but did this weekend. Meter take was not bad and I was qute happy. Unusally though I only got one .40p tip in the whole of a 10 hour shift.

That got me thinking. Did I have BO or had I offendend everyone, simply cos its unusual.

I then remembered as a 21 ish year old in London getting a black cab for a journey of about 2 miles. I just had enough for the meter fare. The driver was very bolshy and told me "if you can't afford a tip, get a f*****g bus", not at 2am but that's another story.

Thinking some more, and avoiding the fact that every bit of income is welcome, should we expect tips? I don't get/expect tips in my day job although it is very much a customer service based role. Would I tip a bus driver/nurse/school teacher - no.

I think we have the Yanks to thank for the custom of tipping and I struggle to get my head round the logic of it. I believe in some countries it is totally unheard of.

Do I tip restaurant staff - it depends. Do I tip if I use a taxi - yes. Do I tip the barber - not if its their business. Boiler Service Engineer, plumber, milkman, postman, dustman - no. But I know people who do.

Discuss!!!

Look at the time of the month in terms of a pay cheque!

Usually at the end of or the beginning of a month money is around, and you will find that is when they do not want their 10p change
