If that was just an MOT test they have no right charging a re test fee as you get so many days in which to rectify the problem, it says that on the fail slip My cab failed on a split CV boot and I took it away and got it sorted took it back the next day and passed free of charge |

My cab failed on a split CV boot and I took it away and got it sorted took it back the next day and passed free of charge Doesn't it say that there is no retest fee if you leave the car for them to fix and a partial test fee if you take the car away and fix it yourself. |

The thing to be aware of with Falkirk Council fee structure is it's punitive nature. If you book a hackney the fee is £62. If you cancel over 48hrs before the test time-no charge. within 48hrs, £31 and within 24hrs, £62. The retest fee is mainly due to (predominately by one firm) cars being presented for test, knowing they would fail and then being booked in again when the needed repairs were carried out. Quote: Doesn't it say that there is no retest fee if you leave the car for them to fix and a partial test fee if you take the car away and fix it yourself.
The hackney station is being run as a commercial concern, but they don't do repairs. |

I had one of my vehicles retested 3 times cos of a problem with the hand brake, no extra charges. I think the norm here is if it fails you get one retest free after that you pay again but not sure how much it is |

Quote: If the failed vehicle is taken away but then brought back to the same test station and retested before the end of the next working day on one or more of the following items only then no fee is charged for a retest:
Bonnet Horn Sharp Edges Bootlid Lamps Steering Wheel Brake Pedal Antislip Loading Door Tailboard Direction Indicators Mirrors Tailgate Doors Rear Reflectors VIN Dropsides Registration Plates Windscreen and Glass Fuel Filler Cap Seat Belts Wipers and Washers Hazard Warning Seats Wheels and Tyres |

BTW, Test centres have to book a 45min slot per test costing £2 with VOSA, the fee you pay is determined by the garage, locally its between £19 and £56 for a car/class4, but our PH/HC test can include the MOT for £3 |

Should the vehicle fail, you will be issued with a VT3O Certificate stating the items causing the failure of the MOT test. Make sure that you are clear as to what rectification is required for a pass to be issued. In certain cases expert or special services may be required regarding emissions or welding. There is no set time limit before a retest and it is at the discretion of the individual. Remember - a car that does not have as current MOT Certificate is not allowed to be used on the road except when going for repairs for an MOT test, or to a prearranged MOTtest. |
