Today I got a call from the Northampton depot of UPS parcels claiming two of my drivers had threatened and abused one of their drivers and obstructed one of their vehicles. I immediately leapt to the defence of my drivers knowing they don't behave in that way but he was having none of it

As far as i can ascertain the van had parked on the taxi rank to make a delivery my two drivers were well forward of it on the rank at the time but another taxi arriving at the rank pulled up alongside it and got out of his taxi to talk to one of my drivers. the van driver on returning to his van through a strop and had a go at the driver instead of politely asking him to let him out then got the number off the taxi which wasn't blocking him in and phoned his boss making all the outrageous claims

I really do resent this ANTI TAXI ATTITUDE which seems to give people carte blanche to pin all manner of false crimes/blame onto taxi drivers who are going about their lawful business so I am thinking of writing to the company secretary if UPS have one in the UK or perhaps the US one but I need to arm myself with the right legal references to quote

So does anyone know which parts od which acts of parliament cover

1) parcels vans illegally parking on a taxi rank

2) Making threats of violence

3) Falsely accusing people of such acts for personal/corporate gain

4) If the corporate responsibility laws would apply to such false claims made by staff on behalf of the company

1. Sec 64 of the 1976 act. http://www.taxi-driver.co.uk/LG%28MP%29A1976.pdf

2. Sec 4 or 4A of the 1986 Public Order Act.

3. I wouldn't bother with that as the two above are bankers.

4. It will be the driver, however if the company repeat the accusations without proper reasons they are complicit in the lies. However stick with the driver.

Of course you also need to be certain that the taxi rank is completely legal with the correct markings and signage. Apparently none of the taxi ranks in my town are legally enforceable because they have the wrong lines or signs. :?

If all the rank markings are in order and correct, why don't you all club together and take a private prosecution for parking on a taxi rank?

The best bit is that it has been known for years that the lines and signage are wrong and the road where the main rank in the town centre is has just be resurfaced and they have still got it wrong.
