Daughter goes down town last night books a cab through our company because she knows most of the drivers and the drivers know her.

She get's into the cab at 12:30am this morning and was taken home, it's usually £8-£9 depending on lights etc etc. She always throws them £10 even though the drivers insist in charging her only £5 (don't know why). Last night she was chaged £18 off the meter by one of our Asian drivers.

Now I'm sat here seething wanting some blood, the owner is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard and the Council won't do nothing because they'll be scared the Asians will pull the racial card, I'm waiting for him to log on then I'm going onto the rank to collar him.

The above is the reason why there's no work in our manor anymore.

If the meter read £18 the fare is £18 NO ARGUMENT. Just because she is related to a cabbie does not entitle her to a cheap rate , and none should be expected on her part or yours.
It is hard out there , while he took her he was not taking any other punter, who would pay the £18 ,as that is the rate your council have set.

I'd take him quietly round the back where there are no witnesses, turn him upside down and shake him till £9 fell out his pockets.
Then I'd explain in a friendly fashion that ripping off my family isn't on.........

If the meter did in fact read £18 there would still be an argument if it was on the wrong tarriff, as the poster said it was £18 off the meter.

Report him to the council. A criminal offence with the maximum of 1 month in jail has been committed.

Or ask the driver for the full fare back.

Daughter has just done one, I just need his plate number and badge number which I'll get tomorrow then the letter will be posted.

He's doing it every weekend Skip, they must take 5 phone calls each night complaining about being over charged / ripped off. Mention it to the boss and all he says is, "tell them to get in touch with licensing".

On the meter it clocks between £8-£9 depending on lights. He did it off the meter and when they got to her house he said it's £18 standard price for a Saturday night.

And Luton Airport.

Both scenarios share a common denominator.

To a certain extent the boss is right. The council are the ones with the power to prosecute. That does not mean that the boss should ignore the allegations but the boss is the one in the tricky position with regard to victimisation. If I were your daughter I would also send a copy of the letter to your boss, and if I were your boss I would be ringing up the council myself and reporting that a complaint had been made in writing and asking their advice.
