A question comes up from another taxi driver and he asks me the following. One of his mates is a taxi driver, and he is retiring from the taxi trade and the driver concerned has maximum no claims as a taxi driver!! He is now going to be a private motorist and is told that his no claims as a taxi driver counts as ZERO and as a member of the public he has to start all over again...............is that correct? |

What a load of bull tell him to shop around and his NCB will follow, he will need proof so get him to get that off his taxi insurers |

I dont think Taxi/PH insurance does transfer, the last time I tried to use the Sizable NCB from a redundant PH vehicle on my own car they Didnt accept it..maybe things have changed since though. |

Generally: NCB from Hire and Reward insurance DOES transfer to SDP insurance. NCB from SDP insurance DOES NOT transfer to Hire and Reward insurance. |

You can transfer it from taxi to private in full, but not the other way around. |

Thats not true I did all I needed was proof of the NCD When we first started in the private hire game we could only get 1 year for every 3 as a private motorist. |

It is true most insurance companies will not transfer NCB between taxi policies and private car. For taxi NCB to be transferred to private car, we have agreements with the following companies who will accept taxi NCB when a driver is retiring and will allow maximum PC NCB. They are Allianz, Groupama, Sabre and LV/Highway. Can't comment on the likes of Direct Line etc. No one I know of allows a transfer of private car NCB to a taxi policy on a like for like basis. Some will exchange an NCB from a car policy to an introductory discount on a taxi policy. These include Sabre, LV, Service and a couple of others I don't deal with. |

In the past it has been possible to do it both ways when I first started I was able to transfer private NCB to a taxi but that was 20 years ago Differant companies have differing rules I know with Westminster insurance if you have an accident even if it isn't your fault and the car is written off your ncb is as well thats why I never use westminster now but Aviva are pretty good about that sort of thing just bad at paying up on third party claims |

I now drive FEWER miles than I did 4 years ago, and in a car, not a XLWB sprinter overnight to jockistan, fully laden, Im rarely out after 10pm at night either, so WHY is my insurance higher? |

Because claimants are screwing insurance companies who in turn are screwing up. Mate of mine had a stupid woman drive into the back of him the other day, and the woman's insurance company offered him £1,000 for his injuries if he didn't go and see a doctor. All he told them was that he had a small bruise. |
