Post subject:  Beware Nigel Marchant's forum

I posted the following on Nigel Marchant's forum in response to the accusations on the frontpage that he knew who ran it and that TDO's goal was to ruin the trade.

Just to clarify, Nidge doesn't know who runs the site, he thinks he does but he's just guessing.

Mr Marchant changed this to read:

TDO also posted:

As for the site's aims, it's to provide news, views and advice on the taxi and PH trades.

TDO also posted:

The personal preference of the site's administrator's is to have a level playing field and equal treatment for ALL in the trade instead of the select few.

Mr Marchant deleted this completely.

To be honest I am extremely surprised at this thread starting.

A forum should be a place for a frank exchange of views, the starting of a thread questioning another forum, especially when perhaps time and effort would be better placed elsewhere (like highlighting concerns of the trades).

A one sided debate is a little boring and this is where this site has benefitted. You have points of relevance from both sides.

So if he's misrepresenting TDO, telling lies about it, changing posts to misrepresent things, and deleting any right to reply, what on earth do you expect us to do, just ignore it.

If we started changing your posts to say what you didn't say, you would just ignore it?

Yes, but the problem is that we have neither the time nor the money to faff around with formal legal action, and as you'll be aware Nidge doesn't worry about these kinds of things either.

And even if we did, I doubt of there's much damage to TDO's reputation by Nidge spouting nonsense on a forum that only a handful of people have reads, so no point in taking action.

I'm not really that bothered what he says on his site, but I'm bothered enough to point it out on here, and why shouldn't we?

As for the defamatory remarks on this site, if we took action the courst would just ask why they didn't delete them - it would be like a newspaper publishing an article defaming it then taking court action against the writer!! So the courts would ask whey they weren't deleted, so they will be. Soon

In so far as the site is concerned its main prerogative should be for the continued airing of views, no matter how diverse of its members.

My views regarding the personal insults are already known, they are not constructive and should be subject to moderation, with the offenders cautioned and perhaps even the reasons behind the cautions available for all to see (in a members only or registered users section for instance).

The use of expletives, depending on the context should also, in my opinion be monitored.

I think that people need to know that whatever they post on his site is going to be changed to what he wants to hear, not what people say.

A very sad individual indeed. [-(
