Two Fulani herdsmen, who allegedly caused their cattle to chase and gore a man killing him on the spot, have been arrested by the Begoro police.

The body of the man, identified as Noah Tetteh, a 57-year-old farmer, has been deposited at the Begoro Government hospital mortuary and the two Fulani herdsmen, Mohamadu Sambo, 35 and Osmanu Bawa, 30, would be put before the Begoro Magistrate Court today. The eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP Kwabena Gyamera-Yemoah told the Times newspaper that on July 15, this year at about 7:30 pm, one Robert Kwesi Owusu, a taxi-driver whose car registration number is GR 151Q was driving some passengers from the Begoro to Obuo, a town in the Fanteakwa District.

He said, Owusu on reaching a spot met bout 150 cattle being shepherded by a number of Fulani herdsmen. Owusu’s taxi hit one cattle but it did not die. ACP Gyamera-Yeboah said the Fulani herdsmen then allegedly made a strange sound and the cattle responded to it and started attacking the passengers on board the taxi.

He said the passengers together with the driver then ran into a nearby bush for safety but they were still chased by the two angry cattle. Unfortunately, one of the men was chased by the two cattle, who gored him to death. ACP Gyamera Yeboah said the Begoro police rushed to the scene to the scene upon a tip off and succeeded in arresting Sambo and Bawa

The problem with bored taxi drivers is they start out with a little harmless fun, but, then they get really bored and heaven only knows what can happen then. One can only take so much golf

More on this fast moving story......

Fulani's Cannot Command Cattle To Kill - Chief

The National Chief of Fulanis in Ghana, Alhaji Iddrisu Bingle has denied media reports that some Fulanis in the Begoro area of the Eastern Region ordered their cattle to trample on occupants of a Taxi cab leading to the death of one of them.

A Daily Graphic publication of Monday July 18, reported that the Fulani herdsmen issued the command to the cattle when one of them was knocked down by the Taxi.

The report stated further that the suspects, Mahamau Sambo and Osmanu Bawa have since been arrested by the police to help with investigations. In an interview with Citi Fm, Alhaji Iddrisu Bingle stated that the claims in the report are not possible. He indicated that “cattle are not like dogs where you can order them to do something for you, cattle are not like that.

"How can a Fulani man order his cattle to attack somebody and kill him, it is not possible and I think you have to talk to a psychologist who knows much about animals. If something disturbs them, each one of them tries to find its way.

“He drives them peacefully as they are grazing, if they want to go to a direction that he does not like, he shouts and draws their attention, he can even throw his stick to hit the cattle in order to stop it, but to order it to do something like the story is trying to tell us that he ordered the cattle to kill somebody, that one is impossible”.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Police Commander ACP Gyamerah Yeboah who confirmed the news to Citi News said the suspects will be sent to court to be appropriately charged.

ACP Gyamerah Yeboah noted that the victim one Robert Kwesi Owusu was driving his taxi from Begoro to Obuohu and on the way, he came across about 150 cattle lying on the road so he hit one and the Fulani herdsmen made some sign and then the cattle started attacking the taxi with the passengers on board. "So they got out and decided to run into the bush. One of them was chased by two of the cattle and succeeded in killing him.

Those who run away hinted the police who went in and arrested two of the Fulanis".

ACP Gyamerah Yeboah however added that “because it was not the Fulanis themselves who did the killing but ordered the animals to so it, we are charging them for manslaughter”. He said the Fulanis did not confess that they committed the crime but “I have been in Tamale and Bolga for some time and I know that they can talk to the cow or the cattle and they can act”.
