Post subject:  Credit Cards

Hi guys, looking at getting something to take payment by cards, and looking at my options.

Thinking of going for something that is done through mobile phones, been looking at TaxiPay by Adelante. Anyone using or has used something similar?

There is only one company in my town who accept cards at the moment, but they only accept it for pre-booked out of town jobs as the terminal is in their office. None of their cars or cards advertise it, so looking to advertise a fair bit.

I see TaxiPay has a 6.5% surcharge for transactions, I'm thinking of advertising in the local papers etc that we now accept cards and doing some kind of introductory offer for something like the first three months of not charging the surcharge on pre-booked fares. Thinking/hoping it will draw in more airports to begin with as we'd be cheaper than the competition who accept cards, and then they would hopefully stick with us as they would be getting decent service.

Does anyone know if with the mobile phone based systems, do they provide you with signage for vehicles?

There was a firm at the Private Hire exhibition that operated a mobile phone service, but I can't remember their name. #-o

It looked quite good, and I nearly signed up.

However mini Sussex has informed me that soon everyone will be able to take credit cards via a smart-phone app, all you will need do is wave the credit card over your smart-phone and away you go.

Should help clear up credit card fraud no end. ](*,)

I have taxipay.
I have not had any problems with it at all. You can also use your PC to take payments when you are in the office. The biggest drawback is having to wait a couple of weeks for the money to get into your account. The 6.5% charge can be adjusted to anything you want it to be but remember that the government are looking at these fees because some companys such as RyanAir take the pi55 so there may be legislation at some point that stops this charge. I would be a bit wary about undercutting because what would happen if your competition also lowered their prices? You would both end up working for nothing.

Grandad,

I wouldn't be undercutting in all honesty. For their fixed prices to the airport paying by card, they charge £7 more than i do for cash. Since it is pre paid, they charge a £4 fee on top of the fare (£30) which is more than the tarriff card permits. For the airport fixed price, i took 10% off to be competitive, so by not charging a fee to begin with would make me substantially cheaper on a return fare, and they definitely won't lower their prices.

Did you get any signs or that for the car? Roughly how long do you have to wait for the cash to go into your account?Grandad,

Receipt wise, do you just issue them with a paper receipt like a normal cash fare and write the authorization code and "paid by card" or something on it?

I don't have any signs for my cars but I am sure that the company can supply them. They can also supply a back up manual card imprinter. The wait for payment is 2 weeks.
