"How long do you guys think it will be before we see the first driver less taxis in Las Vegas given this news and what are the long term implications for taxi drivers and taxi companies in the UK and elsewhere around the world ? "

A few of our customers have no inclination to help load their own shopping in the boot.....never mind do it all themselves.

As for the night shift - will the police honestly allow cars to "drive" drink-drivers home? Now that's never going to happen is it????

The only other category to consider is business people - but then they only use taxi's to avoid having to park, etc, so that's out of the question - unless Google plans to make a car that will automatically return to the house and come back 2 weeks later to collect you at the airport??? LOL.

Well as developments go getting the vehicle to return for you at a set time would be the easy bit imo

and how would a driverless car pay for car parking at the machine ?
How would a driverless car avoid a motorbike weaving through the trafffic ?
Hop would a driverless car deal with someone throwing up ?

How would a driverless car deal with a zealous parking warden ?

How would a driverless car help a disabled OAP in and out of the car and carry their shopping to the door ?

How would a driverless car know when someone is flagging them down ?

I bet between us we could come up with a hundred more yes I would love to sit at home playing on the computer while a robotic car goes out and earns my wages but I cannot see it being realistic or practicable for many of the USERS of cabs
