We have all had it, you turn up for a pre-booked fare and there is no one there. There is another taxis there as well looking for the same people and it dawns on you that you have been had.
Has the person ordering the cars broken any law and if so what law is it? Last night someone phoned for taxis for 10 passengers from a pub about 6 miles out of town. To my certain knowlege 5 of the local companys sent vehicles to pick up the punters along with a couple of chinese takeaway companys with around £50 worth of food for these scumbags.
At least 3 of the taxi companys involved have got a record of the telephone number that was used to do the ringing so it may be possible for the person(s) to be traced. We need to know if this is a criminal or civil matter before going to the police because we know that they will just say that it is a civil matter. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm certain someone once told me that they were told by the police to contact them.......for what reason I cannot recollect.

I would have thought that for starter Breach of the Peace.

I suggest that everyone concerned that has the number of the offending phone, all attend a police station together to complain, including the chinese takeaway.

That way the police may listen.

You should all insist on making a statement or alternatively all hand in an individual letter of complaint at the same time.

In The Hotel and Catering Trade, this is is a well documented problem. It is relatively simple to prosecute someone who has made a Booking and then failed to Honour it.

However, the cost of the Prosecution can be prohibitive and you will have to "Prove" that you were unable to mitigate your loss. Easy to say but difficult to prove.

Also, you cannot expect the Police to gather the facts, you would have to do that yourself, at your own expense, as it would be a Civil Action rather than a Criminal Prosecution.

Perhaps you should get some cards made with 'Taxi' on them and the phone number and put them in phone boxes everywhere.

Better still 'Male 4 Male Escort Service' and the number!!
