As the header suggests, the last increase here was in 2008.

A proposed increase is now in the system, and has gone out to proprietor consultation.

Of course, as always, the prophets of doom are out in force, claiming that am increase (of about 5%) will "kill trade"

I was talking to the head prophet yesterday, who told me that he needed two new tyres, but had to get budget tyres because his insurance renewal had just come through, and had gone up by 50% from last year.

Wuckfit.

A simple lesson in economics. When costs rise, and fares do not rise to compensate, failure looms.

We get that all the time round here, one thing that makes me wonder is why do they have to consult the owners of firms? The last increase we had the owners were saying "it's going to kill the trade and push people to PH". My reply was, if people want a Taxi they'll pay for one and if the PH want to run for peanuts let them.

We are going through the fare review thing at the moment, it is also 3 years since the last increase. I have put forward a proposal backed by quite a few drivers in the town. We have a company that do not use the meter at all and the prices that they charge at present are almost exactly what I have proposed. The boss has instructed his drivers to oppose any fare increase.

On the hackneys round here, the last fare increase for them was October 2008.

On the PH round here, the last fare increase was November 2007 and the one before that was November 2002.

Just as well fuel and insurance costs are the same as they were in 2002.

Aren't they? :?

I have heard that the company that don't use the meters and their drivers have not sent in any proposals by the closing date. This could be interesting when it gets to the meeting.

I think the location on Jimbo's profile that says Lincoln, and his avatar of Lincoln Cathedral, give us a few pointers.
