What is the general consensus on pirating, although illegal for private hire to ply for trade in this way, i see day in day out private hire doing this, how many hackney drivers who were privates previously did ply for trade in this way ? Speaking to a few friends in the trade they say they have no alternative than to do this from time to time. Hackney drivers will obviously be [edited by admin] off at this but from the views i have gathered, when private hire are in the city to pick up legit fares they get booked for parking illegally,,blacks do this too but imo they get away with murder, the rank on sauchiehall st in charing x glasgow i think can sit up to 20 taxis,,yet every weekend you see them literally spilling onto the motorway hard shoulder,,however the police turn a blatant blind eye to this yet when we pick up outside nightclubs we get booked, until there is a fairness in how we are treated i think pirating will always be there.

i see it all the time in Plymouth. Fortunately, i work for a firm that keeps me busy with legit customers, so hand on heart i can say i have never had the 'need' to do it.

i see drivers from other companies doing it though.
some a bit sly, like stopping on the side of a certain busy city centre roundabout with lots of cash points on it, and waiting for someone to approach them to ask them " if they are taken". and others that are so blatent when they pull over for a flagger you wonder how they get away with it.

the police down here seem to turn a blind eye to it at peek times as all they want is to get the p*ssed up louts off the streets ASAP.

however they must have been quiet last night as i saw a copper getting the HC lads to move away from their illegal rank on Mutley Plain. a few minutes later i drove past again on the way back out of town and the HC lads were back again a dozon deep.
