Today i have had so many people phoning up asking prices and then you get what deal will you give me for booking both ways ? How much discount if I book a return ? this is so annoying we are not a coach company trying to fill a 53 seater coach we get no economic benefit from discounting the fare so why should we. Why do consumers think they are automatically entitled to massive discounts and rewards just for booking a taxi both ways

Maybe your competitors offer a cheaper return price, so the punters are merely trying to compare like for like. Or your competitors are quoting a higher one way price and discounting the return, in effect mugging off the punters. Maybe you are too honest.

No this is potential customers trying to force the prices down because unlike in your area we have a massive oversupply situation |

It may give a short term boost to those doing it, but only until everyone else joins in. Then you are all back to square one and effectively all handed yourselves a pay cut. Round and round, discount after discount until you are all working for nothing. Good for the punter in the short term, but bad when most of the trade go bust. Two choices. Stay well clear, while your competition cut each other's throats - and yours. Hope to ride it out. Join in and go broke as quickly as they do. |

The thing is its all people wanting to book for 18.45 going and midnight back from their xmas party and for those time slots we are able to book the cars twice over I wish people would get it into their thick skulls discounts are not likely to be available for PEAK period ! |

Perhaps you should explain to the punters that there are no available discounts during peak hours much the same as every other form of transport

ask them what pay cut theyd take after midnight or on bank holidays or simply for overtime.... then explain you LA charge you £500 a year to operate and your insurance is £1500, if they can get those discounted you will give them a discount and youd like some cheap diesel for their 2nd leg/return....I usually get "oh, sorry for asking" |

Complete Lunacy to give Discounts when all your Cabs will be booked anyway. Now, a Monday Night Special makes a certain amount of sense, but not on the Weekend, you're cutting your own throat. |

We haven't had this with phone jobs yet but we do get it on the ranks. Most of us are quite friendly with each other and we have a sort of unwritten rule that unless the first driver has quoted a realy high price, we don't undercut. We shout to the first driver to ask how much he quoted and we just add a fiver each to the price. They soon stop asking. |

No discounts from me, if they ask how much is it to here and there? When I tell them and if they say can you do it for a lower price I say nope try the next car I'm here to earn a living and not to subsidise peoples taxis who are going out on the lash. |

I gave a pensioner a discount last night......but it was quiet earlier on and I wouldnt have made £15 for 25 minutes work anyway. CC |
