whats the score then .this seems to be a murky subject as lets face it you have to do long hours.insurance wise how would they be if you had a claim 11 hours into a shift |

Lots of people work 12 hour shifts. I once had a Fork truck driving job, 12 hour nights with 2 x 20 minute breaks allowed. |

Not aware there is a maximum time limit.... 12 hour shifts are pretty common in PH.... No tired driver should stay on the road anyway, whether it is 11 hours or just 1. Tiredness must affect people different?... A driver might not have had good sleep, then is on the road and truely tired even in first hours. For my mind set, If work is busy/steady, I can keep pottering around without tiredness effecting BUT if it is dragging with waiting around, I get more tired... so it is not just the hours that dictate tireness... How that is measured legally or insurance wise.... unsure. Suppose hours done, just sound good or bad.... but i do remember once doing just a two hour shift, then taking car off road due to an onset of complete tireness.... only due to 'each little job' going pear shaped etc etc.... If an accident had occured it wouldn't have sounded bad (just 2 hours into shift)... but on that occasion (only once) I was not fit for the road (concentration wise). Is there a stated max hours / shift? Is there a min stated hours between shifts? Is it different for Hackney or PH shifts/times? . |

That said long hours are part of the trade, and during those 11 hours it would be interested to quantify exactly how many of them involve work. |

When I'm tired I'm gone there's no driving for Nidge. I know drivers who are doing in excess of 24 hours straight through without sleep. How are they keeping awake?? You've only got to guess. |

There is no insurance restrictions on the number of hours worked. Its now confession time. On a Friday I get up about 06.15 as normal. I get to my "day job" about 08.30. I'm home by 17.30, usually picking up the cab on the way home doing a swap over. I normally then venture out about 19.00. I then drive usually until 01.30 - 02.00 depending on how busy it is. I get home normally at 02.30 latest. I normally then have a glass of wine and a nibble of some sort and then off to bed. Quite a long day then? |
