Sitting in a car all day can cause you to sweat quite a bit and nobody likes a sweaty driver do they? So a convenienty placed can of deoderant spray is useful in such situations.

I see a lot of people referring to the nightmare drunks, I'm wondering if drivers are allowed to carry cs gas canisters or something else for the offchance of problems. Is it a regular problem, aggressive clients? People running away without paying? What tips do you give to deal with these scenarios? |

Get caught with that and you'll lose your licence I suspect. Some drivers carry stuff that looks legitimate but could be used for, er, defensive purposes - like a huge metal torch - but generally it's just common sense. If you start with an office then they'll maybe have some kind of discreet panic button on the equipment for when things get out of hand, although I'm not sure if that kind of thing is standard yet. If they're getting lairy then sometimes calling their bluff can sort them out, but get it wrong and it can make things worse. It might depend on how well you're able to assert yourself in terms of things like physical presence, but of course if you're stuck with a group of real psychos then even 18 stone of muscle won't help you much. Again it depends on yourself and how you assess the situation. This can come with experience, so perhaps when you're starting it's best to be more passive. For example, they may get stroppy about taking the wrong route, and if you're inexperienced then you may well have done so, so best not to take them on over the issue. CCTV is a good deterrent, but can be expensive, your council may have lots of finnicky rules and if it's not your own car it may not be an option. |

PMSL don't even go there, if you get found with one of them you'll be paying Leroy a visit.

It is not a huge concern, but if I didn't take such things into consieration then I'd not be researching the job correctly and entirely as it is a valid aspect from what I understand. Thanks for answering my questions guys, |

It is an offence in law to carry anything which might be deemed to be a weapon if you are caught and the police are in a good mood a caution if they are in a bad mood it carries a mandatory prison sentence and loss of badge under the fit and proper rules after all no council is going to license a driver who might cause injury to a passenger and carrying a weapon suggests you are prepared to us it The best weapon of all is your wit there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with a drunk a good driver should never get into such a tricky situation |

If carrying groups of young men, a westlife cd will pacify them, a group of drunk females is a different kettle of fish, far more worrying, they can have your clothes off, pin you down, molest you, force you into lewd acts i live in hope |

Apparently he was only warned and offered "words of advice" by our licensing officer. |

Bottom line is that sometimes discretion is the better part of valour, while you shouldn't let them walk all over you if you can avoid it. The former is probably a better approach for new drivers, but with experience you can decide when the latter is more appropriate. |
