Post subject:  AGE 19 Looking for Taxi insurance

Hi all, I'm 19 years of age and looking for taxi insurance and just can't find any insurance that could cover me. I have my taxi badge so surely there should be some companies out there. I know it's going to be expensive but im willing to pay. Does anyone know?? I live in northern ireland.

Thanks

You'll have more luck finding Lord Lucan mate I'm affraid, 19 and wanting Taxi insurance they are going to take your pants down if you can get a quote.

£3k for me, and that was when I was 24, and that's for private hire.

It's hard enough getting a quote for a standard policy, on a small hatch at 19, never mind finding a quote for hire & reward on a much bigger car suitable for use as a taxi.

Often it's easier to get added to a fleet or any driver policy as an additional driver subject to a hefty surcharge but I haven't come across many who have been able to insure a car on their own at that age. See if you can get hold of a copy of PHTM and go through the adverts for the various brokers but I would be surprised if you get any quotes under £7000 although you might find one that will insure you subject to a large excess

I suggest you work with a firm that has some sort of fleet policy, but even then someone is going to have a big fat premium.

They'll still load them silly for having a driver under the age of 25.

I bet its £6K, (plus £1000 excess) and no instalments

I have no idea regarding the insurance or where you will get it from, but our council wont issue a badge to anyone under 21, and must have held a full drivers licence for at least 1 year

There's some (if not most) policies that won't allow drivers under 25.

Does your act allow that age discrimination, as our doesn't.

What do you mean by age discrimination?

Our act says that all you need is a full license for 12 months, age doesn't come into it.

If Skippy's manor says you must be 21 then that's a discrimination based on age.

Then if your manor won't let 14-year-olds drive taxis that's age discrimination.

If a 19-year-old can't get insurance or has to pay a huge premium then that's age discrimination?

Surely it's all based on risk rather than age discrimination?
