How is the taxi and private trade going around your areas and around the country as whoever i ask says the same thing quiet struggling Speaking to a few private drivers from milton keynes who say there's nothing left now as people can't afford to take taxis so they Just walk no matter what and there working 12hours + a day and still not making enough same as were i currently work northampton come down on a weekend night the town is dead no one around and just taxis queing everywhere. Is it the same where you guys work? |

your not related to doom are you ? Up at the other end of the A43 it is slow some days but still enough work about to make a living and we have had a few OKish weekends lateley nothing brilliant but my drivers are doing OK I'm surprised you're saying Northampton is dead I always thought that was a busy town or has seemed it whenever I'm down that way |

its busy but not when private firms are lowering their fares by the day Where the cabs are charging 6 the private 3.50 town to any area or any area to town 3.5-4.0 or area to area crossing past town 4 and we charge on meter to some areas 7 and private charging 3.5 Northampton - mk on meter 30 Private 20 The private are much busier but when fuel is at what it is and high insurance etc not worth those fares. |

From what I hear and see days are holding their own, so to speak, whilst nights are a bit grim. Of course it doesn't help out some night drivers ripping off the few punters they have.

I have to be perfectly honest, in January (in Crewe) we had our second busiest month ever (after Dec'11). With a fleet of just over 40 cars we did 20020 jobs. Of course we have drivers who give the doom and gloom message, but for those who work the job properly and have being doing it for a number of years they report back they are doing £150+ for a 10 hour day. We installed datamaster almost 2 years ago, and I believe that has helped us (having had autocab for 5 years and not seeing a great improvement) This year we are going for a big advertising push and hope to recruit more cars into our system. We firmly believe that keeping your company name in the publics face pays divedends, and despite all of the doom and gloom, we are doing very well, thank you very much! I do tend to agree though, that days seem to be better than nights. |

Moving from town to the sticks lost me 75% of my cash work, then the cash work tailed off, enquiries about airport runs have died a death, folk either arent going or parking at airports (like i do) my school run generates a bloody good part-time income, if not for that id have packed in ages ago, got 13 months of my 4 year contract left, gotta squeeze every penny out of it cos by the end - if i get a new one - ill be looking at changing cars thats if diesel is less than £2/ltr, if it is that price bugger it anyway |

Fact is maybe some places ph or hackney are maybe doing ok,but the vast majority are finding it hard. Why wouldnt we be suffering when the rest of the country are ? The majority of the time a taxi is a luxury when there is a bus running the same route. As for the 150 pounds a day lot wouldnt get out of bed for it
