I see there are many options available, different companies and divers seem to do it their own way. Renting a car from the owner and then paying a percentage, owner drivers paying a percentage, drivers working to a standard salary etc etc.
What exactly is your arrangement, what percentages or arrangements do you work to?
I don't need to know how much you walk away with, but I would be very interested in hearing about how your income and situation is set up and is negotiated.

Thanks.

I have been partners with a mate in a cab and plate in oxford city for quite a while now and how me and my mate do it is verry different
What we both do is as we are both partners in the same cab and plate I work days and he works nights and end of each week we both put in total earnings, take out fuel around 200pw radio rent 60pw and another 100pw for other costs like insurance tax mot ect some times more so lets say I did 600pw and he did 700pw
600+700=1,300- fuel-radio-other=940 then we both split the profits.

Any allowance for depreciation? Anything put by for buying your next vehicle?

A little while ago there was a cab and plate going oxford city cheap with a 56 tx4 for 90k so I said was a good idea as earnings are good so we both went in 45k each and we agreed on the tearms before we bought and we are both happy as averagely were both taking in 500pw profit
Was even offered 120k for cab and plate as no one is selling there and there's lots of buyers the company we work for are a good fast reliabe company when a booking is taken the the passenger is piken up within 5mins some times 5-10 but customers are always happy with the survice.

recent survey shows good singhn of trade and no unmet demand so it'll be long before they do de-limit so untill then I'm happy with paying that much and with buyers offering more than 100k I think if I do sell It would sell fast and for a good amount.

Doesn't it worry you that anyone would pay £100k+ for a plate, when there's apparently no demand?

Anyway, the choice may not be available to your LA in the future.....

I'm private hire, currently on the books for four companies, and I'm also an operator, and I own my car.

Company 1 - PDA rental £15/week. They take a commission on every job. They raise an invoice on my behalf.
Company 2 - They take commission on each card/account job. Any cash jobs, I keep all. They also raise an invoice on my behalf.
Company 3 - They only do card/account jobs. They also raise an invoice on my behalf.
Company 4 - They only do card/account jobs. I send them an invoice every month.

I used to work for a private hire company, which charge £150/rent (which includes PDA), they take a bit extra (10%) on account work.
I also looked to get on the books for another ph company, but they wanted rent (£160), and a commission on all jobs.

Sorry to state the obvious (those who pay rent will know), but the problem with paying rent/circuit fee is that you can really only work on behalf of that one company at a time, so if they're quiet, you still have to pay their rent, and it may take a couple of days to cover the rent (+ fuel expenses) before you start earning money for yourself during the week.

Also if the company is quiet they can just take on more drivers ("flood the fleet"), so the work is spread is more thinly amongst existing drivers.

If you're truly self-employed you should be able to take work from any company at any time, and not be bound by working fixed shifts, so I prefer going to companies who charge a commission, and they can take their cut whatever it is.

Work is good as I do the day shift and I clear about 600pw on a 7-5 so its good do a few long runs from the train station and few long rung get from the company they give us a local job every hour + 2 rank fares hour so its good after 3pm you could do around 5fares a hour but there are your days which you'll be lucky to made 100 but on most days its good.

I know of a mate who put in a offer for £80,000 for a plate with wav then few months later when a one came on to the market plate 74 they wanted 100,000 so he didnt take it but he still has the offer of 80 still there so whenever someone sells for under 80 hell be notified
His currently a driver at night on rental 250pw he says nights the train fares are good so his trying to buy.
