I´m sure most of you must have somehow heard about the story of the recent German "Bundespräsident" Mr. Wulff, (the president who is sort of in the position, where the Queen is in England, not really in charge of things but important for representation and also of some real power when it comes to the passing of laws, which must be to the consent of them) and all the affairs about him, that ultimately led to his demission, only days ago.

Anyway, there is a new one now, Mr. Gauck, (some high hopes around him) and there is a little story about the way that he, who was not really expecting to be chosen, came to know that he actually was and that it also made one lucky night for a Berlin cabby and it is quite a funny little story, too!

Mr. Gauck boarded a taxi at Berlin airport Tegel and his cabby, a Mr. Vadim Belon, was prepared for an unspectacular and rather short ride, when suddenly the mobile of his passenger rang.

Being a polite cabby he turned down the music and he could hear, so he later told the media, his passenger say "okay, I´m in, I´m doing it", this to the female person calling him, about which the cabby, of course, had not the slightest idea, that it was indeed the most powerful woman on the planet, the German female chancelor Mrs. Merkel, asking him to take on the job as the new president of Germany!

It shows something of the character of this new president of Germany, when he turned to the driver and just simply said: "you are now driving the new Bundespräsident, we have to change our course and go straight to the Bundeskanzleramt."

With an autograph of the new Bundespräsident on his cab license (still paper in Germany) this lucky cabby is now all over the media! =D>

It´s good to have you guys back! (Although I had the toughest time to log in!) It´s not only that England has the drought, we´re also high and dry without the forum!

Sure Skippy, but most drivers get tongue-tied and awe-stricken with celebs and politicians (but watch me!)

Anyway, I made up a joke about which president would a cabby prefer to have on board, Gauck or his predecessor Wulff? The answer: Gauck for sure, with him you can get famous overnight, with Wulff you have to give him a 10% cut!

Speaking of Berlin, I have just come to scan my slides from way back, so if you want to see some pics of Berlin in 1982, scary wall and all - here´s a link (to 38 pics)

Crikey! So, was it you actually, Skippy? The one on the picture?

Well, not much point telling UK-lads about Germany, they know it first hand, ey? And, oh, the Frolleins! (Perhaps there is some English blood in me, too, who knows, haha! (No, kidding, I resemble both my parents.)) And you would have missed my mother, Skippy, who actually lived in Berlin after the divorce, but only stayed till `72ish.

(Pheew, took me still way too long to log in this morning, won´t hear much of me the next time.)
