Hi Been driving private taxi since 1990 but now have started hackney cab as i bought my own southampton cab and was wondering on a little information on how different its to the private trade and the laws I am starting monday as i takeover the cab then so till then wanted to know best shifts times I'm willing to work 12hours daily 6days a week Also when im not driving i hear i can rent my cab out so how much weekly could i get for that and how much my weekly expences on running the cab would be? Thank you |

sorry i worked private in small village of romsey near southampton we ran a base of 4 vehicles but eventually work went slow and slow till i got my self out so as didnt really work in a big town or city i don't know on best times and aslo in my entire 20-22 years i always worked the day 6-6 shift as 1 car+minibus worked day and 1car+minibus worked the night its was a 4man partnership, after went to the southampton ranks asking for a cab untill eventually one came on the market so i bought it. |

I would guess that the best 12 hours are probably the ones until the pubs and clubs come out, say 3 in the afternoon until 3 in the morning, but it depends on the local licensing hours. And Friday, Saturday and Sunday are probably the best days, but it depends on local conditions. As for the money, again that depends on the local market. Probably just best to experiment yourself until you find what's best and what suits you. By the way, since you've presumably spent a lot of money on plate, did you consider the risk that it could become worthless sometime in the future? |

Yh thats a good shift but i also will rent out vehicle so wont give a good shift to renter im thinking of working days typical 6-6 shift again and rent out at night so my question is hackney cab work Okay during the day. I know what your saying but cabs were selling around the 35-40k mark but i got mine for 24k as vehicle is quiet old expires around august next year so will need another vehicle. i hear that alot about why risk in plates but i rather take a risk in buying than spending my whole life not buying. |

I look at my uncle for example About 30years ago his friend bought a cab and said to my uncle to buy aswell but my uncle kept saying its a big risk that i dont want to take so my uncle kept at private and watched his friend work few hours daily drive around in a s class merc nice house and retire at early age and my uncle still mortgage on house no car for private use, working day and night and still not making good living so he advised me if want good life buy a cab instead of running around day and night driving private for nothing. So thats why i say you should take risks. |
