One of lads here has had his Data Head stolen from his vehicle. The company want £400 to replace it because they say it's his insurance that should pay for it. Some of the guys are under the impression that the company should be insured for the data head as it's theirs. Also how much is a new data head because I'm under the impression that the new Auriga data heads are around £800 but I could wrong.

Has anybody ever had their data head stolen?

Also to save anybody asking there is no formal or informal agreement regarding the responsibility for the data head in the event of a theft

I think the driver needs to claim on his vehicle insurance, as the operator has lost out through no fault of his own.

Of course if he has the right house insurance he can claim off that.

His insurance should cover it.

My insurance does cover radio equipment so I guess your mate is out of luck with this and at the price they are now it's not surprising the company wants him to cough for it, ask about a Tom Tom style one if they are available and compatible with the firms system, then he can simply remove it after leaving the car and take it with him.

The head itself is virtually worthless, it's not like a stereo, another firm would be stupid to try and use it, so maybe it was simple malice, if he's a favored driver I would suspect one of the guys who earns £30 a day while listening to how the other half lives has had it.

No you have to have their data head as it's the only one compatible, it wasn't another driver and it was his own stupidity for not removing it when he can. His insurance does cover it but with the excess and the loss of his no claims it isn't worth it. I guess it's a lesson learnt
