There is a shining example, of what can go wrong , with the hackney taxi trade , in your town . Take a Sefton with , a few fleet owners and 271 hackney carriages . Because the owners were so greedy , and wanted to keep their assets, their plates , increasing in value , their drivers in shackles and make a mint . They bullied the local council, making sure the council , did not issue any more plates . They encouraged , the council to let quality standards slip , they were pleased , easier to recruit drivers ,easier to keep their cabs, on the road . They hid their heads in the sand, thinking they have cracked it. Then they woke up . The short sighted ness of them . Means the demand for taxis , is being met by private hire . In Sefton there are 1540 private hire cars . They have got g p s . There cleaner , cheeper ,younger than their cabs . The Sefton hackney owner, has now become a bit of a joke . There plates are not increasing in value the reverse . There incomes have plummited all because of their greed .

I suspect that when Sefton re-restricted, the then cab trade used the same flawed reasoning as their good friends in Liverpool. In short there were far too many cabs.

I wonder however many of those plates were ever returned to the council?

I suspect the answer is none. So many of those fleet owners got their plates for nothing, yet want to stop others doing likewise. And the unions support it.

i'm sure the same story could be told in many major cities up and down the counrty.

is it no wonder that many HC owner drivers turn to their old enemy (the big PH firms) to get on a radio circuit so they can supplement what they are not earning off the ranks. and then compounding the problem even more by having to do radio work when theres demand at the ranks not being met.

I think it is time to put streetcar in his place, yes there is 1500 p/h in sefton but everday over 1000 spend allday working L,pool he has said so himself, he's the one saying that he drives a bin,I will say that paying 300 pounds a week is well over priced, 220 for a t x 1 in sefton,a sefton driver can earn a 100 pounds a week less than a L,pool driver and still go home with more..just because L,pool owners have got greedy does not mean that we in sefton have to ,by the way just last week I gave a day collar to a lad who had just come off the city said he could make more in sefton ..100 per day it's not a lot but it does..streetcar you seem to make a point of talking rubbish, maybe this is why you pay 300 a week for a bin ,you never hear of sefton cabs cherry picking..but all you hear on the radio day after day, are the public complaining about being RIPPED OFF by city cab's...p.s..friday & saterday nights are good as well....mrT..

I have got a mate on the city he has his own cab & plate ,he works from 8am to 5pm and long collar fri & sat, does1000 pounds aweek, if he can why can not you...mr T...

220 for a day collar? That's a lot Mr T, innit?

So if you're getting £150 for a day collar, then you can't be far off £200 for a night collar, then £220 for a long collar doesn't seem much.
