I've always seen the hackney black cab trade as being the safest part of transport but know relised its not because getting a pre-booked private hire is more safe than getting into a hackney carriage from a rank or flagging one down :-o
Because if you get a pre-booked private hire your details are logged on the office data and your
pick up address
Drop off address
Name
Time of pick up
Are taken by the booking office so if something happens to you and you took a private hire the police can follow your steps and get evidence but whereas hackney carriage no details are required so it'll be hard to track down your steps.
So people don't take a licensed taxi but use a private hire instead and also was in london last night and looked at the hackney drivers on the airport all looked scruffy in t shirts, hoodies but saw the minicabs drivers who impressed me verry much as there appearance was smart, all in tie suits, blutooth headsets.
So now after a long time driving hackney relised the ph are faar better off than us as they appear proffessional but us are Just named as being professional cab drivers but arnt really

It was only in April last year that you were asking questions that seemed to be from someone new to the trade. You actually bought a plate in Oldham at that time. So that didn't last long did it if you have since worked in Northampton and now Oxford. What did you do with the plate that you bought in Oldham?

Was running up and down the country every week so just decided to sell up didnt get a good price as last plate sold for 23k so prices gone down so no one was offering over 30k so just got rid.
I could of sold it few years ago for a verry high price but i was stupid not to now sold it for half how much could of sold it for then.

How could you have sold it a few years ago? You only bought it last year.

The taxi i sold belonged to my father which was given to my after he passed away i drove it for a number of years then decided to buy my own but then had to leave oldham due to some major problems so i came down south so bought one in oxford.
But then i sold my house in oldham but as oldham houses are faar cheaper than oxford i couldn't afford a house as i had a few loans so then decided to sell off the oldham taxi so can buy house with low mortgage and pay off my loans.

Your right that taxis off the path have no idea who they are picking up, however neither do PH when picking up from pubs/clubs/street corners pre-booked/etc.

In truth both sides of the trade have their own dangers, and I'm not sure which one is the most dangerous.

You mean you actually listened to the warnings issued on TDO about the Law commission enquiry and the possible results of nationwide deregulation?

You can kid yourself about the rest, so long as it makes you happy.

Captain
I would still always drive hackney and still don't think the ph trade is good enough for me but just saying that the ph appear more professional than us and they have drop off and pick up times and adresses of each job but if you asked a black cab driver where he picked up and dropped off and times of his 3rd fare of the day i can say he would not have a clue as of the ph they can check with the office to get details.

It is quite possible that he hasn't had 3 fares all day.

Is that the legal fares, or the ones touted outside the pubs and clubs?

Is that the fares written in English, or Swahili or Urdu ?

Just wondered.
