here's one to watch out for. We had a crack in a windscreen a couple of weeks back. I rang the insurance up to arrange to get it changed to be told that the windscreen excess was £350. I told them to leave it. I rang Autoglass directly and was given a quote and after a bit of pleading I got the quote down to a couple of quid less that the £350 excess. It may not have been much of a saving but it has saved me from having a claim on the policy.

I'm guessing you have a fleet policy. I am seeing an increasing number of Lloyd's and London market underwriters applying the same excess to windscreens as they do any other damage claim. For people with a high glass excess we usually suggest trying National Mobile Windscreens. The always seem very competitive and give good service.

Or the insurance agent hasn't noticed the screen excess isn't the same as the policy one, it's normally £75 and you don't lose bonus through it, how you got AG down to £350 is a miracle, last time I rang them it was £600 for a Vectra screen and they wanted close on a grand for my current car,

I nearly needed one last night, bored youths walking towards me in the road, 7 or 8 of them, one slaps the screen as I crept by them another jumps on the bonnet, wants to fight me at the time but I have female onboard and decide to tactically withdraw until I've dropped her, I then got back to them with the assistance of the police and while it's still stacked in their favour Mr Highjump is still thinking he's the man, which then turns to oh c'mon mate it isn't damaged, oh yes it is, so anyway it's down the station to make statement and by now all his troops are nowhere to be seen and he's now gone from I got my mates and I got the police so enraged cabby can't do anything to him to sitting on the step in the station yard with an O f**k look on his face as I approach,

Gutless coward, he thinks cos he's a big lad he can bully people about, I've also found him on FB and the profile pic says it all, hoody up with more ID masking features in play, I managed to 85% smart repair my bonnet today but I still ain't happy about it, the police were fantastic btw, oh and I won't be getting compensated for it cos as usual the family doesn't have anything other than faulty sperm and eggs to offer the world.

I paid £75 last year through my insurance company for a new windscreen on a Mondeo (the screen with the heating elements in them).

I was going to use a local company as I didn't realise at the time that I could get my screen done via my insurance company, anyway, the local company wanted just over a ton.

If I were you, I would go for the Chinning. But then, I am not you.

Only use Autoglass if its via your insurers, ring 10 others for a price

Ive found Mobile windscreens cheap but each vehicle has its issues, its worth asking, quotes are free but Autoglass have the windscreen insurances pretty much sown up

what vehicle was it gramps?

Renault Megane. It has an acoustic windscreen, whatever one of them is.
