Post subject:  More Green guff..

I just was just checking train times and found a CO2 comparison sight on east coast rails website, It crows about how much less C02 is used if you travel by rail as compared to flying or by car..

Your CO2 emissions savings

The chart below shows the amount of CO2 emissions you will save if you travel by train, instead of a car or plane.

Car Kg CO2
61

Plane Kg CO2
63

Saving Car Kg CO2
33

Saving Plane Kg CO2
35

The calculations are based on:

Car = 0.114kg CO2 / pass km. This is derived from the DEFRA CO2 emissions factor for an average petrol car which is 0.180kg CO2 / vehicle km and the average loading for a car: 1.6 people / journey (DfT).

Train = 0.052kg CO2 / pass km. This is derived from the DEFRA CO2 emissions factor

This is just them twisting figures to suit their own green propaganda.

If we applied the maths a Taxi or PH with 4 or more people onboard would be use less C02 than a train would...and I'm guessing that they are basing their train figures on full trains not 1/3 empty trains which are more the normal.

I would put good money on it that on average a TAXI or PH would be as green or greener overall than most journeys made by rail.
