the LA says you must have a sticker saying "prebooked only" and that either you must show the operators name or accept a sign as acceptable, this is the result......

what will a drunk focus on?

Most people who want a "taxi" can't tell the difference between a taxi and a private hire car. It seems to be only the UK that has the difference. what the punter wants is to get from A to B safely, at a reasonable price in a clean car that doesn't stink of smoke. Most don't give a [edited by admin] about the niceties of the licencing law. As long as the Telford Taxi doesn't accept bookings from on the street, what's the problem?

Everyone who phones us for a car always asks for a "taxi".

If you ran a pizza shop which only sold pizza, would you describe yourself as a kebab shop?
If a customer asked for a kebab, would you tell them you don't sell kebabs or just give them a pizza and hope they don't care?

.....or private hire which you call taxis....

If the public can't tell the difference, it's because PH have spent over 35 years blurring the line between them.

hold on, do you think i WANT signage which confuses the issue?

I always know who im picking up, and they know me, why create confusion?

(and bodywork blemishes when the signs peel off?)

Not you personally, but PH in general has and confusing the issue is what most want.

LA's are compounding the issue, some PH even have to have rooflights a foot or more wide with small lettering with the "prebooked only" on them, plus side signs plus window stickers

crazy, in a time when money is tight of course some PH will be tempted, just as some HC will take a flag out of area...........

No, but both would call themselves a 'fast food restaurant' that provides you with a takeaway meal.

Sorry I don't sell takeaway meals, kebabs, fish'n'chips or pizza, just a good quality safe efficient private hire car service, and vintage buses for weddings.

With only one TAXI in town and about 8 private hire cars, the chance of getting a TAXI is slim. Like I said earlier, the UK is the only EU country I know of that differentiates between ph and hackney and makes such a fuss about it.
