Honest taxi driver paid $2.60 for returning more than $9000 cash



A UNITED Arab Emirates cab driver who returned cash worth more than $9000 that a passenger had left in his taxi was given a reward of just $2.60.

But Dubai cabbie Shaaban Ali, from Pakistan, told UAE daily Gulf News that the small reward did not bother him.

Last week Mr Shaaban's cab was hailed by a Saudi Arabian national for a 20 minute trip from near Dubai airport to neighbouring Sharjah.

After dropping him off and taking another passenger, Mr Shaaban noticed he had left a bag near the door.

He was unable to find the passenger near where he dropped him off, so he returned the bag to his office - discovering it contained the man's passport, some documents and 36,000 dirham ($9400) in cash.

The passenger was informed and came quickly to collect his belongings.

"He told me thank you and handed me 10 dirham ($2.61)," said Mr Shaaban.

"I have to admit I felt a little bad because I spent a lot of time trying to track the passenger down and even spent more than an hour waiting at our office for him to come and collect the money. But I would have returned the money with or without the reward, so it doesn’t matter."

thats well and truly miserly I think 10 times that amount would be more appropriate considering the time and effort put in to return the cash

If he had kept it and was found out he would have had his left had removed, they dont have andrex over there :shock: but the guty that lost it must be like Jimbo, as miserable fecker

Can't remember if I posted it on here or not?

I found over £8K in sterling, plus a few thousand more in Euros after dropping two hungarian football officials off at the 'W' Hotel in Leicester sq back in 2010.

I never noticed it until I stopped at Euston, and even luckier for them, I'd driven past a punter as I needed the loo. I doubt whether I'd even have known about the cash if someone else had found it . . . it would have been like that 'cash cab' telly show for them.

That was one massive wad of cash, passports, Iphones, the works.

I found a very relieved Hungarian stood on the front steps scanning the streets when I arrived, covered in sweat. :D

The scumbags that mascerade as doormen there had told him the money wouldn't be seen again, to which I had great pleasure of informing him that they were referring to their non english speaking cousins who hang around the door in their minicabs 'serving' the doorstaff with backhanders, and not the real licensed london Cabbie who wouldn't risk his career for £11K.

(Door staff, or door ponces as we call them are bent as a nine bob notes, they take backhanders like they're going out of fashion for trips to the airports etc)

Anyway, It netted me over £200, all the praise I could hope for, plus a quicker than normal shift that day.
