It is if they are transporting people for money. Not if it's just the pet.

So a hospital has a contract with a hackney/private hire firm for blood/urine samples, the hackney/private hire firm could use an unplated vehicle for transportation of samples ?

I think this sort of loophole was closed in E&W at the same time as hotel courtesy buses. I'm sure someone with a better knowledge of English legislation will tell us.

Surely that cant be right otherwise I could start a shoe transport firm and not charge the person in the shoes just charge the shoe owners for the transferred shoes .....

a chilled van would be best, but yes, no plate required for goods

We have a chap here that delivers pizzas for a price. The buyer of the pizza travels with the pizza.

It would take a very expensive court case to set a legal precedence (if the driver had funds to fight it all the way), and im fairly certain the courts have better things to do, then again whose gonna take a spaniel on the [edited by admin] on a saturday night just to get home cheaper, ASSUMING the pet taxi IS cheap....that isnt a cert

There is a case on TDO that ended up in the higher courts.

The outcome wasn't overly kind to our trade in that it said that if the owner was only there with the pet, and the pet was the main reason for the ride, then it was legal.

I didn't agree, but then I wouldn't.

I think what would really set the legal precedent would be if an accident occurred in which the pet owner was injured resulting in a police prosecution for no insurance. I would be very skeptical about the insurance aspect because if money is changing hands and a passenger is travelling with the animal does the vehicle have the correct insurance ?

Sounds good to me, I don't want pets in my cab unless it's an assistance dog.

I draw the line at ponys.
