What to do or even say when a punter gets in, you get the first whiff and you want to wretch..... Short of opening all windows, getting out the Fabreeze and hoping that will get the message across..... What do you do and what are are the "rules" (if any) in your area and how do you deal with repeat offenders who don't even seem to notice the stench they trail, have an aversion to soap and water in that they do have a serious hygiene problem, which must be a severe assault on most peoples smell receptors.... |

Open up the windows, and never pick them up again. |

Easier said that done. It is difficult to ascertain when they first appear, other than soiled clothing. We have some here who come from "homes" for the mentally depressed or ill, or just come from dirty homes.... It seems they have difficulty in understanding, "Sorry could you take the next one if they will take you" and get quite nasty if and when refused. Short of telling them that they stink what do you do? I ask this as I'm really [edited by admin] off with having to take them time and again. The council here don't seem to understand if they get someone complain of refusal. I personally feel that we should have the right of refusal if they are of this ilk.... |

It would seem that some would put up with the infestation, but as a PH you can refuse. As a Hackney on a rank can we refuse? From what I can gleam from licensing here, only if they have soiled clothing or look like a tramp. Being smelly is not an excuse for refusal? I say it is, as the smell can linger for some time even with Febreeze or the like. One has to realize that infinitely small particles, bacteria become airborne and are received by our smell receptors!! I just lock the doors before they can enter, but it's risky as they can complain by phone and cause grief especially if they have mental problems. Upside is if they do and come round the corner next time and I'm 1st in line they can choose the one behind me as they are bound to remember (I hope) I'm the one with the sensitive shnozz...... There is no excuse these days. 100 years ago most people stank as they didn't have modern plumbing..... |
