Post subject:  London Taxis for the uninitiated.

A friend of mine posted the following elsewhere:

I am back, London survived me, though a few of us had problems with Taxi Drivers, the Brides Mom was having afternoon tea at the Berkley, it took the taxi Driver 2 hours to drive from Tower Bridge to Knightsbridge, he hadn't a clue where it was, even when she gave him the post code, eventually, the bride spoke to him on her Mothers Phone and told him if he charged more than £20 there would be trouble, guess which taxi driver turned up to take them to Euston Station this morning. We also had taxi's booked to take us to the Gherkin from Tower Bridge, we could have walked it but it was raining really heavy, both the taxi drivers didn't know what the Gherkin was, didn't know the other name either, I showed ours a photo and he didn't recognise it, he had already refused a post code, but after all that he did use his sat nav and took us to the door, I think we needed you Steve - apart from that it was magical, I am now off the do the photos - I missed you all, I hope everyone is well, XX

Any ideas what may have happened? This is not what I would have expected from what I've learned on this forum!

We asked the hotel to book a cab for us, when we had the problems, other times we just went out sider and hailed a black cab, they were wonderful. As we had to be at the Gherkin for a speccific time, we weren't sure what traffic would be like, we thought it would be safer to pre book it, if we had to do it again, we would just leave a bit earlier and hope we could hail a cab. My cousin was really stressed out when she went to the Berkley, it was a special treat from her to the Bride and her friend, luckily I had said D and I would like to do a bit of sight seeing (I think afternoon tea was £39 each plus a service charge - enough said) they went round the island by Buckingham palace 3 times, they kept going over the same twobridges, he was totally lost, and hadn't a clue where the Berkley was, she eventually rang her Daughter who soon put him in his place, and eventually directed him to the hotel, but it spoilt a special occassion for M. D and I enjoyed seeing Tower Bridger and The Tower of London and we tucked into fish and chips XX

Edited.

So they allowed the hotels to book scabs for their transport needs.

No sympathy, if they want a 3rd works service, good luck to them.

Must have saved them at least a fiver. Ffs

Perhaps Mr Cabbyman, you could enlighten your friends what a Taxi is in London, and what a Minicab is.

That is precisely why I posted this, but I needed my facts right before I went back in print. It was as I suspected. :-)
