my council are very strict i was failed when i took my brand new Octavia in to them in 2001 they failed me for the back seats being to narrow so i had to stuff them with newspaper for it to pass but the Octavia was new to the field then and i was one of the first to use them but i was talking to my mate at the rank the next week and he got an Octy too and his passed 1st time

I am a newbie to your forum. I have a private hire car for its 1st examination on Tuesday. I have a Citroen C5. I've heard that they are really strict and will fail you for stupid stuff. I've been looking online for a checklist or a list of what they will be looking at in the car. I know it's an mot that they do but what else. I want to have the car in pristine condition so they can't find much wrong or anything wrong.

Any past experiances or advise would be very appreciate.

Mine failed brand spanking new on first test because the dealership putting it through it's plate forgot to get the windows etched.

Maybe, but why would that be part of a council inspection?

Windows etched with VIN code is not part of the annual or any other test AFAIK! All glass must be marked with the appropriate safety glass marks though, except buses pre-1968.

Make sure it's in good order and it's clean and tidy. Take any fails on the chin and represent it with them rectified.

Who tests them, a council depot or a designated garage/MOT test station? is it having an MOT or just a compliance test?

Laura Bring it to Ashfield mate they'll pass anything in any condition, they let one through on Tuesday with a bald tyre.

As mentioned if it fails on a mechanical issue, then get it fixed. Other than that don't worry.

Make sure there are no marks on the seats or scratches or dents on the vehicle. Mine failed brand spanking new on first test because the dealership putting it through it's plate forgot to get the windows etched. It's not the first time you've put a vehicle through a plate so you should be aware of the councils standard and if not ring them and ask

All glass must be marked with the appropriate safety glass marks though, except buses pre-1968. sorry, i meant VIN checks, the safety glass markings would come on the glass from the manufacturers, any additions/alterations would render the vehicle illegal by way of altering the E-marks/BS markings, the only aftermarket etchings would be the registration number
