had the misfortune of having some teenage pleb hit my PHC on Saturday putting me off the road





hit it that hard he pushed it up onto the kerb damaging wheel, removing tyre from the rim and generally doing god knows what to the suspension components





and his line of attack on my poor Vectra, love the fact not only was he driving far too fast for the conditions he was doing so on the wrongside of the road





i'm going to start this thread as 1) i'm bored stiff stuck in the house and 2) as a running diary of the absolute nightmare i'm predicting this to be


first of all its my own car, owned outright by myself debt free and bought when the trade was in much better health.

Accident happened on Saturday Afternoon and I contacted a accident management company who specialize in the Taxi and Private Hire trade(they'll remain nameless as the impression I get so far is one of utter incompetence.

Sat Aft: Accident Management co said not a problem we'll have you in a replacement vehicle for Monday Lunchtime
Mon Lunchtime: no replacement vehicle - err its still in the bodyshop you'll get it tomorrow asap
Tues Am: err still in the bodyshop we'll get it out to you this afternoon
Tues PM: err parts never arrived Promise you'll have it for Wednesday Lunchtime.


I guess I realy just need to vent as I've been on the road since Saturday my bills still need paid and due to the time of year I've dipped into the savings to pay for Christmas pressies.




in regards to my own car, still nothing official but the bodyshop says 3 grands worth of damage without looking at the suspension so i'd imagine its a write off. I dread to think what sort of paltry sum i'll be offered for a 6 yr old Vectra on 1/4 million miles. certainly not enough to replace said Vectra, thanks to our council insisting that any PHC plated must be less than 5 years of age at first plating.

Mate it's his fault so you know the score claim claim claim.

That's going to be great once it's all sorted but just now I've no car to work no means to buy a car to work and a rapidly dwindling cash reserve to pay my bills


Oh and according to my insurance co the little scrote still hasn't contacted his insurance co and declared the incident

hope the car gets fixed soon know the feeling as just the other week someone hut me at a roundabout she didn't stop either so chased her into car park and asked her why she didn't stop said the usual "i din't hit your car what you talking about" and showed her the scrape on the offside wing she just made, luckily i had a passenger in the car and she said she would be my witness then she went on saying that i hut her! anyways we exchanged insurance details and now waiting for word back from my insurance, the joys

Thing is the car isn't going to be fixed 3 grands worth of bodywork damage alone according to the assessor

Loss of earnings mate and all the other stuff.

Are there settle cars available while you wait for the insurance company to get it's act together and send you a replacement?

No settle cars to be had ATM trying to get one off the accident managment co but their only glasgow plated car is in the bodyshop ATM.


My car you'd be lucky to get £1500 for but to replace it I need to buy a sub 5yr old example. Ergo I will get screwed

From a personal point of view, I would think that as it is NOT your fault, then regardless of the value that you think that you will get..............THEY have to put you back to the position that you were in before the OP whacked you.

I would not settle for anything that would put me out of pocket - If they come back with a derisory offer, just tell them that the longer it goes on...........that you will claim for loss of earnings, that will by far eclipse the cost of putting you back on the road.

having had the use of a accident management companies plated car previously I know exactly how expensive they are. think in excess of 200 a DAY tbh see if they had phoned me on Monday and said theres 5grand take a week off and go buy yourself a replacement car and keep the change towards plates and testing i'd have bitten their hand off.

as it stands just now there looking at 4 days loss of earnings, a minimum of a 1400 in hire charges (get the hire 7 days after a cheque has been received ) plus whatever they value my car at. no wonder insurance prices are so dear when the companies themselves don't make any effort to sort claims out in a hurry

loss of earnings require 2 or 3 years accounts be produced and tax returns.

Your whiplash will be worth £2500 but take 4 months to be paid at least
