Our local, Hackney Carriage Association requested 6 month ago to change the Hack tariff, the change was all about bank holidays and it was changed because of them.

The change was all about bank holidays, and from then on all bank holidays were to be run on normal tariff other than the Xmas/new year holidays.

The council agreed and all 300+ of us had to have a meter change and new tariff card at cost of £31 to each and every one of us.

This month the local HCA asked for it to be rescinded, council agreed and this month we all have to pay £31 again to have our meters and tariff cards changed back to what it was 6 month ago.

Our Local HCA is a shouting match, that never gets anything done, so pointless attempting to change it from within, people have tried, seems if your not from a certain community your voice will never be heard anyway.

Cheers idiots, you just cost us all £62.

Do the authority have any guidelines on this, in York to start another organisation you have to have a certain percentage of drivers before they will listen to you

Didn't any driver appeal against the change in the first place?

WRONG AS USUAL SUSSEX THE ADVICE SHOULD BE.

JOIN A UNION THEY WILL HAVE A BLOODY SITE MORE RESOURCES AND EXPERIENCE THAN SOME AMATEUR ASSOCIATION AND WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH BEING RECOGNISED BY THE COUNCIL WHO WILL ALREADY BE DEALING WITH THEM.

YOUR CHOICE RMT UNITE GMB

I was a member of unite, when I approached them for help I was told, " we dont really have a taxi section as such, let me call you back with a number you could try" guess what I am still waiting for the call.

The law on consultation doesn't have any caveats as to how many people share a similar view.

If a group of drivers have a viewpoint, they are legally entitled to express it.

How many union officials do you know that have a better understanding of taxi law than the good people on here?

If people wish to join a union then good on them, but not all people do.

In my experience Unions need numbers in areas to be effective - what the thinker has written concurs with what I've heard - as an individual in an area as a union member they are not interested - they told one friend to go out recruit some more members and become a branch - 25 to 50 should do it.

Of course, we could all recruit 50 people when the sh*t hits the fan in an area - but keeping hold of them when things are fine and dandy?? Well that's another story.

All the more reason to be in one id have thought, cause you know the [edited by admin] will hit the fan sooner or later  On a plus note i would have thought wages and workers rights would be a lot poorer without them.

Our LA/LO are far more respectful towards us since a few here joined the GMB dedicated professional drivers section which includes both HC and PH. Any one doing this kind of work will need some kind of legal protection at some time in their lives, it's inevitable..... An unprotected fool is a fool indeed. Lets face it, there are more fools in this trade than in most it seems, that is pretty much evident with the mess we find many in and why the LC are now involved....   #-o #-o #-o :-|
