I just have a few questions if you'd be so kind as to answer them it is appreciated. 1. What do you think a fair fare rate is. 2. If you would consider a discount for customers, under what terms would those discounts apply. 3. What do you consider to be a 'long distance run' 4. If the rate for a long distance run is different to the standard fare rate what would it be 5. What do you think of having to wear a shirt and tie (clip on if preferred) for work 6. What do you think a fair radio rent/settle would be |

1) £2 for first mile and £1.40 a mile after 2) Discounting is a way of life for the UK 90 percent of people will NOT book or get into a taxi unless they are guaranteed a discount off the meter price 3) we have a general rule of thumb based on price under £5 local job £5 to £10 village job £10 to £50 out of towner £50 plus long distance 4) all long distance prices are quotes and at a SUBSTANTIAL discount to metered rates otherwise you don't get them 5) I wish I could get my drivers to do that it looks proffessional 6) my drivers pay around £40 to £50 per week depending on whether or not they take turns on handling calls to be honest you cannot charge more no one would pay it |

1. What do you think a fair fare rate is. The amount set by the LA 2. If you would consider a discount for customers, under what terms would those discounts apply. Very few of our customers get a discount. The vast majority are given by the driver, not the company. 3. What do you consider to be a 'long distance run'. We have a rota. The trigger is £25. Set by driver agreement. 4. If the rate for a long distance run is different to the standard fare rate what would it be. No different from standard. We do 3 Airports on a set fare (again agreed by drivers) but only as an incentive against other firms in town. 5. What do you think of having to wear a shirt and tie (clip on if preferred) for work. Prefer smart/casual. A collard shirt/polo shirt rather than a crew/v-neck T-shirt. 6. What do you think a fair radio rent/settle would be. In a fleet our size around £100. In order to cover staff/office costs. (after HMRC remove their pound of flesh via VAT)

skippy41 wrote: Dont forget you can get most of that back, if not more Oh I know, my treasurer keeps reminding me when I go off on a rant about paying VAT on wages. Which, to me, when it's based on the weigh-in before wages, PAYE and NI are removed, looks like a stealth tax. Then again that's why we have a treasurer*, and not me doing the money stuff. *It also helps that in a past life he has a BA(Hons) in finance and a [edited by admin] load of experience dealing with Her Maj's finest. We must have one of the best kept Taxi company books in the UK.

I just have a few questions if you'd be so kind as to answer them it is appreciated. 1. What do you think a fair fare rate is. Starting from £3 2. If you would consider a discount for customers, under what terms would those discounts apply. Maximum of £1.50 but don't like discounts 3. What do you consider to be a 'long distance run" anything over 3 miles 4. If the rate for a long distance run is different to the standard fare rate what would it be. Wouldn't change it 5. What do you think of having to wear a shirt and tie (clip on if preferred) for work. I just wear a shirt and black trousers usually 6. What do you think a fair radio rent/settle would be. £60 -£70 as mine is £72 and i think it's quite expensive as the last firm I was with hated them they band me for 3 months luckily i had a general so just worked off the rank but the radio money was £20 cheaper |

I dont recall that one, and Ive been a Ltd company, VAT registered, employed PAYE drivers (not in cabs) Id only pay VAT against a suppliers VAT invoice - not on wages im not buying this for a minute...... 1. What do you think a fair fare rate is. "Fair to who, the driver or the punter?" 2. If you would consider a discount for customers, under what terms would those discounts apply. "Consider, then reject" 3. What do you consider to be a 'long distance run' "26 and a bit miles" 4. If the rate for a long distance run is different to the standard fare rate what would it be "different" (or the same) 5. I'd probably need my money minded compadre to help with a more concise answer, but we draw in approx £2k in radio fees this is income subject to vat. From that income all the office costs including wages are paid. So in my eyes we pay vat on wages. I may be wrong, but it's how I've always read it. My treasurer reads it differently, but he would;-) |

My treasurer reads it differently, but he would;-) so youve 20 radios out on rent? VAT registration is mandatory in your case (about £77,000 or £1500/wk) Do you issue a VAT receipt for each settle/rent? (your acting illegally if you charge VAT but dont issue a VAT receipt if asked for one) If each owner pays £100/wk inclusive of VAT you just owe the VATman £16.66/wk but any VAT you pay OUT comes out of the £333/wk your collecting, so the VAT for fuel, leccy, phones, company car leasing, etc, etc, you reclaim out of the VAT the drivers hand to you. You can place all the VAT collected in a high interest savings account and have the interest as an income. OR....You could downsize under the VAT limits, deregister and not enter the world of VAT and keep all the £100/rent |
