Post subject:  Drivers Tailing your car.
I know its abit off topic and not taxi related, but what do you guys tend to do about drivers who follow so close behind your car you cannot even see the front lights?

Today i was delivering in Eastwood in Nottinghamshire and noticed a sports type car (think it was a red merc soft-top, Roof down and had a young lad with shades on driving with two girls and another lad as passengers. I watched them get closer untill i could no longer see the bumper of the car......and did what i usually do and apply my brakes pretty hard. it was like from 35 to 15mph. Good reactions by the kid behind and he manged to stop before smashing into the back of me, gave me a stare and the usual "[edited by admin]!" :roll: chant.

Now, if he were to hit my car from behind...would i be able to claim from him and maybe get injury compensation? May as well make money off these [edited by admin], or will i be in trouble?

Anyway, i tend to do this most of the time some [edited by admin] of tailing me and they usually resort to keeping well back after that. Not many things annoy me in my driving job but this is one which really gets on my nerves.

Know exactly the kind you mean

I also hate the drivers that hog lane 2 especially on motorways doing 40-50 mph instead of moving over into lane 1

The Police really should do more to stop these examples of dangerous driving, especially lane 2 hoggers who end up forcing you to overtake on the inside which we ,of course, know is illegal except on a one-way street

I have a problem with all other cars on the road. :shock:

If someone rear ends you then it's their fault, because they should be far enough behind to stop if the car in front stops for any reason.

However, if you slam the brakes on because they are too close then I assume that you would be in the brown stuff as well.

It is exceptionally annoying though, but of course it wouldn't do for the police to 'catch out' drivers in 21st century Britain.

I had one the other day, a middle aged, middle class lady in a Volvo, not the type you'd normally expect to tailgate you. I was doing around 50 on a bendy bit of A-road at the time, but couldn't even see her number plate, and when we come on to the straight I eased off the peddle to encourage her to get past - she had at least half a mile to overtake.

Of course, the silly moo just stayed where she was.

Just tell the police that a kid was about to run infont of your car either that or a dog/cat ran out infront of you.

i've allways thought my excuse would be a kid was running down a driveway towards the road and didn't look like they were going to stop....so i had to brake. "It seemed better to have a car hit me then me running over a child" i think its a great excuse for the t***s to be taught a lesson.

Failing that, any kind of animal could run in front of the car..its natural to break anyway

But obviously it would depend on the circumstances - out in the country the animal argument would sound a bit more plausible than the child.

But it would obviously come down to any witnesses or whatever to corroborate the two versions of events, and clearly if the other car is full and you are on your own you will have a job making the police believe you - I suppose it would amount to dangerous driving on your part, if not the tailgater's as well.

But it might be difficult to make such a charge stick, especially when the situation most obviously points towards the tailgater being at fault.

But the best course of action is probably to not do it - difficult, I know, but the assholes win again.

If I had the dosh I would fit a camera and put these clowns on a website :lol:

Best thing to do with tail gaters is to just put your left foot on the brake pedal just enough so the brake lights come on and at the same time use the right foot to accerlate. This way he will brake a nd u will be off down the road.

Dont really see the point in slamming the brakes on risking the chance of them rear ending you as that is going to cost you earnings.

Last year an old bloke pulled out of a junction and knocked me onto the curb....the damage wasn't too bad but my insurers tried there best to make to claim injury of my neck. I never saw a doctor and ended up with £1,000 compensation which was quality really. Bit of the money back against these [edited by admin] insurance companies.

Anyway, i was told if i went to the doctors complaining of a bad neck or whatever and he had a record of it, apparently they could of got me around 5 or 6 grand. So i don't see why i being rear ended by a tailing driver could be a bad thing, as long as its not something stupid like 50-60mph.

And what do you mean by s*** insurance companies? Is it because they pay out on exaggerated claims or it's not as easy to exaggerate your injury as you would like?

Or is it the high premiums that the rest of use are paying because of your exaggerated claims :-s

Well, these insurance companies allways muck me around, so boy racer drove into my car while i was parked and it took close to six months for them to admit defeat...the lad also tried to blame the mobile home which was parked also, which he hit. :) the Insurance company stressed me out there....so taking a thousand off them for another incident felt like a revenge case :)

My insurance is sky high also, abit of money back was nice for once. There still possible a good 6 grand ahead of me though in the all time scores eusasmiles.zip
