Post subject:  Hey you, can you shift off the rank

Sorry to greet you all with this headline, but I'm sick to death at wots going on at one of our taxi ranks in the middle of the city

This rank has worked fine for years, recently a goverment agency building was sold and converted into flats/ apartments and in come the yuppies, these flats very very expensive, around the million mark

now what we have is lots of comings and goings with top of the range motors wanting to park in this entrance, looks like a drive way but it is not, the kerb is not dropped so they have to mount the pavement plus cross the taxi rank to get there vehicles in, this means they have to ask the taxi drivers to shift off the rank whilke they do want they want to do, come or go.

It was mentioned last night by some drivers,oh you must let them in and out cos they paid a lot of money for these apartments, the council will only come along and split the rank up with drop kerbs and yellow lines so they can gain access, some of the cab drivers are pulling off the rank for the yuppie lot to gain access across the rank

The b@st@rds was at it again last night tooing and froing with their four wheel drives etc etc, I myself would not move off the rank, I took digi photos of wot is going on, wot is my course of action other than the taxi office
mucking pig sick

I would get the council to put some of the lovely concrete posts on the pavement to stop the yuppies doing what they are doing.

Surely it's not safe them driving on the pavement?

But as night follows day, there's no way I would be moving up and down for them. Just park up on the rank and go get a cup of coffee.

Presumably when planning permission was granted it was clear then that this area wasn't intended for vehicular access?

Where are they actually driving to - a car park, or is there a proper car park elsewhere?

Yes there is a proper drive way and leads to a biggish parking area, yellow lines, drop kerb, spilts the cab rank for this purpose, between cab slots 3 and 4 on the rank, but these b@st@rds want to park at their front door of their apartment together with their guests as there is no on street parking, the opening these people are driving into was the walk way for the public/ people when visiting the old goverment department building when it was used in the past, this opening leads to a large door, the area is as wide as a large car and 3 cars long as you walk to the door, this is right on cab slot No2 on the rank

I get the impression their thoughts are stuff em they are only cab drivers, get out of my way. I need to be in and out, and we paid a lot of cash for this property.

Your rank is quite simply your rank. So just sit there and if they don't like it get them to write to your favourite LO.

And if he doesn't like it then get him to point out where in your bylaws it says you must make way for yuppies.

Dick'eads - but at least if there's already provision for proper access then it's unlikely that the council will let them have anything more.

But give people an inch, and they'll take a mile.

If this was me,I would be submitting a request to the council , asking them to place bollards alongside of the rank , (in the interests of public safty) as there is a issue with car's crossing the pavement... mrT

I just noticed you have already placed a link to a pic so I deleted my original text .

It would appear you have a slight problem there because It is hard to envisage the council doing anything about it. Has the local TOA informed the council about the situation?
