When you take a job off your rank how far over YOUR borough boundary can you travel before you can charge what you want (as long as you agree the fare with the customer) and what kind of charges would you make when it's quiet or busy. I know in Southport (Sefton ) it is 4 miles over the borough boundary and the one or two hackney drivers I know just go off the meter when it's quiet. What about the rest of you? |

It doesn't matter how far over the boundary the job goes. If it goes over the boundary they the fare can be negotiated. I usually still charge the metered rate. |

The law say once outside your area, can't be much clearer than that i.e. an inch will do. |

Give them a price take it or leave it, if they take it and its a good distance money up front. If its very long distance include meals and coffee on the price |

Once over the boundary it is outside of their juristriction. As others say 1" is enough. |

Often wondered about this one, we are never in the position to have the luxury of charging more that meter for out of town...its always significantly less if we want the job. But if chance ever presented, as a Hackney Carriage Taxi aren't we still governed by national legislation that demands the meter must be engaged when taking a passenger and the indicated fare on the meter is the maximum we can ever charge? |

You only have to use the meter on out of area jobs in a Hackney if you haven't negotiated the fare beforehand. |
