been introduced at hackney station. Up till recently (not sure when it came in) there has only been test and re-test fees applicable. Now our Council run testing station has decided to charge £5 if the vehicle "passes", but it needs a "minor fault rectified" (eg a sidelight changed). In which case they hold the paperwork and instruct you to change the bulb and come back later/next day). I will be questioning this at today's forum, as there was no intimation that this was being introduced. Just implemented. (legally or no) Also a Hackney is now £65.50 (up from £64) twice a year. A retest £32.75 (up from £31) |

I just tell the Testing station which also happens to be my local garage to bring the car up to test standard, they can hardly fail it if they do the prep work..

If your car fails with minor faults it shows you're not maintining it. You shouldn't rely on an annual test to find out what's wrong with it. |

Always check everything you can see before you take it, lights, tyres, wipers, washers, make sure there are no lights on the dash, handbrake, breaks. first aid kit and fire extinguisher is in date, spare wheel is inflated and has enough tread and tool kit, the above will only take about 5 mins to check on a daily basis |

If you drive a vehicle all the time you usually notice these things anyway |
