Post subject:  Who is right?
Today i was speaking to one of the other drivers while sitting in tescos waiting for a hire, he drives a general and was telling me that last night he drove into Asda and someone was waiting outside and flagged him down, the passenger got in and when he dropped her off, the base radioed thorough asking why he picked her up cause he had no hire on his datahead and the driver who had received the hire (a PH) seen him picking her up and complained. As a result of him picking her up he got banned for the rest of the day!, thought this was a bit excessive has since he is a general and she did flag him so he is entitled to pick them up?

he could of asked her the really difficult question of have you already rang for one

but they dont and use the same excuse as always wish our base did the same.

Are we supposed to ask everyone that flags us down if they have booked? To me a flag down is a flag down.

sounds like the radio base not wanting to upset the PH boys.


in all honesty I don't see that he's done anything wrong here and that's from a PH driver. he's been flagged down and picked up as he should do


its the punters fault not the driver ban the customer

Though so my self, its about 60% of the cars on the system is ph's, we have quite an equal balance, but thought they were out of order banning him though

I think it's what we call a TAXI and you call a HC.

Most grateful Mr gusmac, I sort of knew that just wanted to make it easier for folks to follow.

In answer to Mr UT11 I would say it was legal, but if it happened in the same way on the firm I work with, then hopefully it would have a similar outcome.

As has been said if you are on a firm that has a free-phone somewhere you need to ask the punter if they have used it. If they have call in asking how long the car will be, and if the punter has been missed then take him her.

Otherwise a punch on the hooter is on the cards. :wink:

If your hackney and someone flags/asks you for a ride its your job,simple.I dont care if they have rung or booked a ph its there choice .Maybe they had been waiting too long :D

well if they are in a rush and the phoned taxi is taking too long and a taxi comes along with its top light on clearly they will just flag it

raised hand is contract between hire and driver driver no need to question customer an driver who got loged off shood make complain to council as taking money with no intent to supply service is theft and that office has stolen a day wage from driver for nothing

Well he is a general so he just drove in to see if any work was there, someone flagged him and she got in, but she had already phoned for one and the ph seen her getting in and reported him
