Last night i got a hire from A&E Wishaw General hospital up to Lesmahagow, a £25 hire anyways arrived there and the guy sat in the back said "here is my phone i will be back with the money in a minute" just as he was putting the phone in my hand he grabbed it back out and ran, was fu**ing fuming as you would be, so drove to the local police station to report it, they didn't really care and said they had a big operation on and most of the officers were leaving, i drove back and went to my local police station and told them what happened and the mans description. it really annoys me for people who do that. I mean we are out there to make a living and they think its okay not to pay

Picking up from a hospital you need your antenna fully focused for non-payers.

I just wish the firm I work with had people answering the phones who don't send other cars when the first driver bins off the job. [-X

Well the reason i got the hire was case it was quite a long job and i am a 1 of 4 priority cars for the week so i got the job, and he used the freephone there so there was no CN, and he did run into a block of houses and the police said they will go to A&E and try and get his name and proper address and hopefully my £25.00, was raging as every nightshift i have went through half a tank of diesel, so when i finish my school contract i go and brim it usually about £40, just encase i get a really long hire E.G Carlisle,

Re: United Taxis 11

Sorry to hear about your ordeal .. and it's happening far too often which is why we have developed the Pay & Go Taxis Payment Deposit System which primarily is a deposit box mounted onto the bulkhead, the driver estimates the cost of the journey and asks the passenger to put their money into the unit. Stops confrontation as you are not sticking out your hand for money and implying that you don't trust them, and if they don't have the money or don't want to pay then you know that before you've wasted your time driving them to where they want to go. On arrival at the destination you can either give back change as normal or ask them for the balance, or ask them for a top up on route if the meter reaches the same amount as the deposit in the box. It's not linked to the meter, the display clearly shows both driver and passenger how much has been inserted and labels on the cab alert them that you are a Pay & Go Taxi and they might be asked to use the unit, so they know before they get in the cab. The unit also detects and rejects counterfeit money and acts as a safe locked deposit box and deters robbers as its bolted down! Current model is for hackney cabs with the dividing screen but we'll soon have the model that can be used in saloons and private hire. Let us know if you are interested and we can contact you once its ready. Keep Safe!

So then....

Print a sign and stick it up

"At the drivers discretion you may be asked for the fare, or a deposit, at the start of your journey"

I had one Sunday morning about 5:am from A&E Department Killer Mill Hospital going OOT Out Of Town £30+ job. When I got there 2 likely lads approached me and said are you for Morton to which I said yes, when they got in I said where you off to? When they said their destination I said, "lets have some money up front lads". They said we've got the money at home at the other end. I said "sorry lads money up front or no ride company policy".

Thirty quid job or not it's not worth the risk.

the police are just off the phone, they go into the A&E dep, not me, think they might have my guy and he has apparently done this before and owes a few taxi drivers money, wouldn't have bothered if it was a £8 hire or something like that, but £25! that will be right, im not letting this go and on the data head, i got the hire a 03:05 or there abouts, it said for CN:Customer as he had used the freephone at the hospital, but it did have a door number and street but weather they are legit i don't know, but even the wife said i should have taken the money upfront, especially at the price, the time of night, and especially picking up from hospital

Another FWOT, got a call from the local curry house to the caravan holiday park for the 6 seater, a nice £10 job. got to the curry p[lace, no-one there for a 6 setaer. Phone home, she phones the punter, no answer. 15 minutes later, "where's our cab"....

Where are you, the driver's been there. "We're at The Pilot" a fish and chip pub some 10 miles away! FFS, there's quite a difference between curry and fish n chips even in this backward part of the world!! Needless to say, we're fully booked now as we have the only 6 seater in the area. 8)
