Our bus lanes say the same but PH can use them and also quite recently they have allowed motorbikes to use the main ones for an "experimental period"!
Perhaps you should start lobbying the council because they are the people who can change things, not TDO!
And what you say about "Can I have a Taxi" is pretty universal!, most punters neither know nor care if there is a difference all they want, is to get wherever they are going.

There are plenty on here who think driving a taxi makes them a cut above ph. I'm not sure why however as both are exactly the same ie drive a customer to their desired location, receive payment, repeat! Also 95 percent of the public dont know or care about the difference.

Practically we are doing very similar jobs but legally we are not and it is the legal side that makes the difference, having said that there is in some areas quite a difference between the knowledge of the taxi driver and the knowledge of the ph driver which would also make a considerable difference. With regard to the punters, not knowing nor caring what they are in, I think that only applies at the weekend when they want to get home. In reality where I am the punters make preference to the type of vehicle they want rather than the type of licence the driver has. Again I'm in an area that allows ph to use the bus lanes.

Hack and PH do the same tests here, and its a dual badge

we have no bus lanes....the whole road is a bus lane

Yeah the same here, that's why I said 'in some areas' We don't have a dual badge but I hold both licences.

We have dual licenses here. I've done hack and PH work and if anything PH is more demanding; when it's busy you are job to job and have to crack on to get to the next booking in time. Driving a hackney earned more money per job but after each job there was loads of dead miles back to the rank, sat night aside no chance of anyone flagging you down.

I'm aware that in different areas there are different harder tests to be hack licensed however here most of the hacks here have a Ph firm radio in and do bookings aswell.

You can be a hack on a circuit and combine rank with radio work....

I guess you should have checked the times the lane is operational and avoid it if you can't use it, that way you won't get fined
