I work in Cardiff but live outside the actual borough, as such I have no council member that I can write to as a representative. We recently had imposed upon us after an apparent consultation, a very large licensing fee increase. The following day in our local rag, it was reported that one of the councillors who was responsible for the massive increase in the hackney numbers, appeared to have some sympathy for us against our increase. I have contacted this councillor in the past regarding another matter, however I had to send a repeat of the correspondence to get a reply, for him to say that as I was outside of his constituency he felt that he did not basically have to correspond with me. So the situation is this; I have sent him two e-mails re the reporting issue, and have had no reply, neither do I see myself getting one. As a driver working in Cardiff, and he is having a say on my standard of living/licensing............does he have a duty to reply to my e-mails questions, if not who can I turn to in respect of councillors. Failing that can I report him/make a complaint against his conduct. |

If it was me I would speak with my own MP and get them to communicate with the Councillor in Cardiff |

Where you live is immaterial, as Sussex says, you run a business in his ward, he has to deal with it! I'd suggest you see the separate threads on here about the legalities of licence fee increases and make life very uncomfortable for the city council by making a lot of FoI requests. |

Thanks guys. Having had time to think it over, I have e-mailed my local Councillor who also happens to be a "Welsh Assembly Minister". The problems that I am encountering have been highlighted re the Cardiff FOI office, plus a Councillor who has done a lot of damage to Cardiff hackneys, who seemed sympathetic to us on this occasion, but not having the grace to reply. The Cardiff FOI should usually respond to a request within 20 working days. It was only after keeping onto them that I eventually received the info after a 30 day wait! Only then did I receive some very ambiguous info that did not really answer the questions posed, also info that contradicted itself! The Cardiff Councillor that I contacted seemed on this occasion to be sympathetic (very unusual) to the Cardiff Hackneys. I e-mailed him twice..............but received no reply. I will let you now when I have further information. However if anyone knows of a better route, (no pun intended), I will take it on board. |
