I have a customer who has a taxi to or from Heathrow on a fairly regular basis. The flight is usually very early in the morning and usually on a Saturday. Our usual price for this is £180. It is a 240 mile round trip and obviously the driver will miss out on working the town on the Friday night before the journey. We have been doing the job for £150 for the last few trips, which is our day rate for the journey because, like I say, it is fairly regular. A few months ago the customer told me that he could get a taxi from Heathrow for £120 but he wanted to use "a local company" and could we match the price. I told him that we couldn't and explained why.
Anyway, this morning I got a text from him asking for a 06.30 pick up this Saturday which I confirmed at the usual price (£150). He text back saying that he has friends that only pay £100 each way for the same journey. I suggested that he checks if the people doing the job at that price are operating legally.
I think it may be time to bin this customer.

Don't no why it took you so long to work out he was trying to screw you? I would have asked for the name of the company? Phone number? £150 sounds very fair to me, at £100 I would let them do it, but it's always good to know who is doing it for £100.

Any clown doing a 240 mile trip for Either £120 or £100 a trip is doing the Job for Zilch profit.. at £120 equals only 50p per mile or £100 41.6p per mile.

Feck me....Instead of 4 Hours + of driving the owners of these companies would be better off sitting at home doing nowt as Driving 240 miles just to rack up the cars mileage, wear and tear and fuel bill!!!!!

Erseholes.......... #-o

The Job has to be Worth at Least £180/£200 a pop.

I asked a coule of drivers at the station this morning what the cheapest price to Heathrow they had heard. And guess what I was told that there is a driver doing it for £100. He is driving a '57 plate Galaxy automatic. The £100 price that he charges is actually for students travelling from Heathrow to Leicester. He lives a good 20 miles this side (the wrong side) of Leicester.
Actually when I say he is driving this car. At the moment it is off the road and he can't afford to get it fixed.

And these are the fecking idiots that walk up to me at the rank and say 'But a taxi brought me here for . . . .'

Well done county drivers, the race to the bottom continues.

£150 would get them to Hitchin with me. End off.

some interesting comparisons,

our set fare would bring it to around £430/440 from Glasgow to Heathrow

Be fair though, how many Glasgow-LHR jobs do you get?

whereas the midlands - LHR isnt THAT uncommon, but most folk choose a local airport to fly from

ive taken an electric motor from here 100 miles for £150 in the car, i can always smell a panic job...

Less than 50p a mile, makes you about 3p a mile for yourself. £3 for 5 hours driving? Raving mad pal!
