I don't think it is oil that they get from fracking so it is unlikely to lower the price of diesel. Quote: Shale oil, known also as kerogen oil or oil-shale oil, is an unconventional oil produced from oil shale by pyrolysis, hydrogenation, or thermal dissolution. These processes convert the organic matter within the rock (kerogen) into synthetic oil and gas. The resulting oil can be used immediately as a fuel or upgraded to meet refinery feedstock specifications by adding hydrogen and removing impurities such as sulfur and nitrogen. The refined products can be used for the same purposes as those derived from crude oil.

wannabeeahack wrote: wait till all that shale oil gets fracked up, we will be seeing low fuel prices then lads... Fracking releases mainly methane gas so will be of little use as road fuel without using FT processing which is expensive because of the large amounts of energy used so whilst it might make us a little less dependant on the russian oligarchs for our gas supplies it won't bring down the price of fuel There is also the environmental problem of that released gas not all coming up the pipes and working its way up through the ground and contaminating everything in it's path it is a very dirty industry |
