No it's because most brits want to earn unrealistic money and work a few days a week and then several days off living the life of Riley ! If you work hard there is still a living in this trade but not a great one In the days before we were flooded out with Asian drivers it was hard recruiting because most people expected to work 8 hours on a friday or saturday night and go home with 200 to 300 pounds in their back pocket. We are a lazy nation expecting too much and now the immigrant drivers have taken over and some of them will work for next to nowt

In many areas the only way drivers can earn a good living is to work crazy crazy hours.

I think it's fair to say folks from abroad are more likely to work those crazy crazy hours than those home grown drivers.

Two weeks ago we had one foreign driver who'd clocked up over 100 hours logged on and working, this didn't include his drive to and from Derby every day, you can add ½ an hour each way for his travelling X 7 days a week.

He's going to kill someone if the Council don't do something about the excessive hours worked by these foreign drivers on a weekly basis.

Imo the foreign drivers choose this trade as it is unskilled and still quite easy to enter even with the requirement of a Btec and DSA test. Also with few checks on all aspects it's easy to abuse as well. Operators are opportunists who also like to abuse the system and scream loudly if others suggest that things should be tightened up. As they say 'the squeakiest wheel'.......

They do it because it's the only work they can do. When a Pakistani comes into this country they aren't allowed to work but, they can be self employed which opens up a new window of claiming from the state.

Not so sure about that many are very clued up as to their rights and entitlements and pull the race card at the slightest provocation BUT if it's a business run by immigrants they are able to fet away with it especially if the labour is "illegal" and can't go to the authorities and complain

I think it's fair to say that with the recent immigrants they don't care how long they work for, they send the money home where their family is, it goes a lot further. A lot of them are here to work and work only. I guess it's the same as working on ships or oil rigs etc, away for so long and home for so long. They bunk in together keeping costs down then go home to enjoy their earnings

They arent ALLOWED to work but often they come here cos their own countrymen use them for slave labour, work permit or not
