I am currently doing my Knowledge (Aberdeen) and hopefully I will be a Taxi Driver withing the next 8 to 10 weeks. The advise I am after is

Where is the best deals for Insurance?
I currently own a 2001 Audi A4 1.9 SE TDi 130 is this ok for a Taxi?
Is it worth me selling my Audi & buying a VW Touran?
How often do you need to service your car & general running costs (Tyres etc)
How often do you need to clean your car?
Should I invest in SatNav or Radar Detector?

Any advise is great.

Thanks

Insurance you should spend a day or two ringing everyone for a price. Look in TDO's links and publications for insurers.

Audi A4, not for me but ask your local council. If they wont allow it see what the local trade drive. They should know what they are doing.

Running costs are the same as normal, it's just your motor will hopefully do a few more miles.

Clean the car when it's dirty.

SatNav is ok for longer journeys, not convinced about local ones.

I take you are going to be private hire then?
there is a waiting list for yellow plates(about 50) but going down steadily)
I would suggest you go for a yellow plate and the streets with or without an office!
Im in Aberdeen and although your running costs will be cheaper being p hire, you do make more money being a yellow plate!
you do have to put a wheelchair accessible taxi on the road though but these now start at £15,000 for a fiat doblo(uglyiest things ive seen)
ford tourneo connect,again 15,000 or a london cab (£30,000) or e7,volkswagen caravelle,shuttle)
insurance should be about £2,000 at the max for a newbie!
